AmaSerena

AmaSerena is a regal river ship accommodating both guests who wish to socialize with kindred cruisers and those seeking private rejuvenation. Twin-balcony staterooms maximize scenic views with amenities that include Entertainment-On-Demand, unlimited Wi-Fi, movies, music and more. Vivid brush strokes on the duvets give local color new life, while sophisticated white marbled bathrooms offer a clean canvas. When it’s time to step out, guests can choose a quiet respite in the inviting library or head to the Main Lounge for cocktails and conversation. Both venues are designed with fabrics in rich reds that call to mind full-bodied Merlots. For a bit of whimsy, the Sun Deck boasts a giant chess set, or you can take a dip in the refreshing pool. As a member of La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, the exclusive international culinary society, AmaSerena also offers exquisite, locally sourced cuisine in the Main Restaurant or at The Chef’s Table.

Ship Reviews

I went on this Rhine River Christmas Market cruise with a few friends. I had my own stateroom with a balcony and French balcony. The bathroom is positively huge and gorgeous, particularly compared to large cruise ships I’ve been on. We began in Amsterdam and had enough time to explore the city the day before we embarked. Each stop was beautiful and full of Christmas markets, castles, and cathedrals. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable although ours in Cologne was our favorite. These cruises are definitely for those who want a relaxing on board experience. This is not a Royal Caribbean type cruise. Don’t bring kids. I have four and they would’ve died of boredom. That being said, I loved the peace and quiet and slow pace, and a glass of wine on the balcony watching cute European towns go by. There was one lounge and two restaurants. Our meal service was impeccable and by the end of the week several servers knew whether we preferred white or red, Splenda or sugar, etc. I found them all quite friendly and fun. The service staff was charming and didn’t complain once that I lost my key card twice.

For our 40th wedding anniversary my wife and I decided to celebrate by traveling somewhere we had not been before. We decided on a European river cruise and with the guidance and recommendation of our trusted travel advisor, Just Vacations, chose AmaWaterways' Rhine Castles and Swiss Alps cruise aboard the AmaSerena. This was our first river cruise and it was wonderful with every detail taken care of! Meals and drinks at mealtimes, including wine and beer, were plentiful and scrumptious, the ship was clean and well cared for, and meeting our fellow passengers was so much fun. Our captain, cruise director, and the entire crew always made us feel we were in good hands. Everything was excellently done, from point B to A (Basel to Amsterdam). Each day we had several choices of excursions and activity level to choose from. The excursions were well planned and led by local residents knowledgeable about the area. We have previously cruised on large ocean ships, but we much preferred the intimacy of the smaller river ship. There were no unexpected, hidden, or extra fees. Any extra cost we encountered on the ship (bar drinks, laundry) was very reasonably priced. We thoroughly enjoyed our cruise and definitely will book with AmaWaterways in the future.

We selected this cruise as it was part of a package being offered by a local travel agent. It was the first cruise of any type for me and I was very pleased with the experience. The ship itself exceeded my expectations and the staff was top notch. Our cruise director, Luis, was excellent and worked hard to make sure the passengers were happy and well cared for. There were multiple tour options available at each port and they accommodated the various physical/agility levels of the passengers. The local tour guides used by AMA Waterways were knowledgeable and very friendly. I enjoyed each tour and tour guide for different reasons and appreciated our guides' willingness to answer questions or offer recommendations regarding the dining, etc, for whatever port we were in. They also offered on board wellness (exercise) classes and Rui did a great job of leading them. The quality of the food and the dining service was excellent with a focus on local wines. Transfers from the airport on arrival and transfer to the airport on departure went well, given we were a group of almost 100 people. Overall, this felt like a luxurious cruise at a good price point. I would definitely travel with AMA Waterways again!

Our first cruise of any kind could not have been a more enjoyable experience. Our river cruise set sail from Amsterdam and made stops in Hoorn, Middelburg, Ghent, Antwerp, and Rotterdam before returning to Amsterdam. The AmaSerena was beautiful, spotless, and comfortable. The crew was incredibly attentive ... always eager to help ... always with smiling eyes (masks were required in public places when not eating or drinking). The ship prepared three delicious meals a day and with a few exceptions (when we were on shore) we enjoyed every single one. The restaurant staff was excellent. They were always prepared, always anticipating our needs, and always exceeding our expectations. Special shout out to Razvan, who handled service at our table throughout the entire week. Another thank you to Balázs, our cruise director. The excursions were very enjoyable, well-timed, and always safe. We're already planning our next adventure with AmaWaterways. Our first experience with this company made us customers for life.

This was my first river cruise and it definitely won't be my last. Despite the Covid challenges AMA and the great crew of the AMASerena did a fantastic job. There were lots of added touches to make the holiday cruise extra special! The ship was decorated beautifully! They even managed to have Santa Claus join us one night! They went above and beyond at every turn! The ship was always spotless and there was always crew members cleaning and sanitizing the public areas. I had an issue with my vaccination app and the cruise director, Nicki Drinkwater got everything straightened out so I could enjoy the ports of call to the fullest! I can't say enough about the crew and how they made this holiday cruise extra special I'm really looking forward to taking another cruise with AMAWaterways. I also want to do another Holiday Markets cruise. I'm thinking about the Danube for 2022?
