AmaMagna

As imagined by AmaWaterways’ Co-Founder, Co-Owner and President Rudi Schreiner, the “Godfather of River Cruising,” the one-of-a-kind AmaMagna is the flagship of our award-winning river fleet. Twice the width of traditional European river ships and offering the luxury of space, four unique dining venues and more leisure opportunities, the innovative AmaMagna has redefined the river cruise experience! Most accommodations are spacious suites measuring 355 to 710 sq. ft. with full balconies.

In addition to the Main Restaurant and The Chef’s Table, AmaMagna offers Jimmy’s, a family-style restaurant named for AmaWaterways’ late Co-Owner Jimmy Murphy, and the intimate Al Fresco Restaurant, serving up delicious vegetable-forward fare. Both a sun-deck pool and whirlpool invite guests to refresh and enjoy the views, while AmaMagna’s Zen Wellness Studio is an expansive space with a fitness center, two massage rooms and a refreshing juice bar. A brand-new full-size pickleball court will also be featured on the Sun Deck, debuting in 2023. With connecting staterooms and triple/quadruple accommodations available, AmaMagna is also the perfect river cruise ship for families and groups!

Ship Reviews

The entire experience was outstanding. From The Captain to the housekeeping staff it was obvious that customer satisfaction in priority #1. The food is 5 star. Activities are geared to cover the entire spectrum of physical capabilities. The guides on the off boat excursions are very knowledgeable. The disembarkation was handled flawlessly. The staterooms on this ship were just outstanding ,and spacious. The Cruise Director did an excellent job of keeping all on board appraised of what activities were planned for each day. The cabin was always cleaned each day. We did not afford ourselves to the fitness room, but it looked as if there were sufficient machines available. The boat itself is kept immaculately clean inside and out. One can tell the difference when seeing the condition of other river cruise ships. This Ship is in a class of its own. If you ever have the opportunity to travel with this cruise line, jump at the opportunity.

What an amazing experience. Yes, the AMAMagna is a spacious ship. Much wider than the other ships, which translates to very comfortable cabins. We booked the second-level cabin to get a balcony. We didn't use the balcony very often, preferring to be topside with views, but we did enjoy the added sunlight in the cabin. The ship has three restaurants, and the food was unique to the countries we visited, though we could always get something like a burger or steak if desired. We traveled from Budapest to Vilshofen and added the extensions of time in Budapest as well as Prague. I'd say both of those are an absolute must. The hotels used by AMA for this trip were VERY nice and perfectly located to the sights we wanted to take in. Our cruise director coordinated the activities on and off the boat. He took care of everything and made sure our activities flowed smoothly. Every day with a smile. Our ship's onboard staff was likewise tremendous! Everyone from the "hotel" to the kitchen and bar staff was amazing. Likewise, the ship's crew who ensured the ship itself was in top shape, got the bikes to the docks, cleaned the decks, etc. We did celebrate our anniversary on the trip. Note the pictures below. The shore excursions were great, with various options run by local guides who knew the areas, and history quite well. We chose the more active options, so we walked and biked many miles along the way. Comfortable shoes are a must. With the upgraded cabin (200-level), the laundry was included. I should have packed much less than I did, or at least differently. Most of the time on board, things are pretty casual, but most people dress a bit nicer (not coats or ties) for dinner. Shorts during the day was common, but women did have to cover their shoulders going into churches. Glad I packed my flip-flops too. We were blessed with amazing onboard entertainment. A wonderful couple from Budapest. He played piano and she sang beautifully. They mix it up during week so sometimes, it's lounge-style (request a song) and sometimes, more active dance party. Always tremendous either way. Do make sure you've got local currency for tips (bus drivers and guides) as they earn their keep. Most of our excursions were excellent, some were good, and none were bad. The bikes were not e-bikes, so be prepared to pedal! With that said, you're riding along the Danube, which is incredibly scenic, but not always flat. I'm not sure I could write a review that would do justice to our full experience. It was that good. This was our first cruise. I'm really not sure how we top this.

My wife and I are retired and in our mid-seventies. This was our 2nd Cruise with Amawaterways, our first one was on the Rhine River and this one on the Danube River. Since the AmaMagna ship is larger, there was more space in the rooms, extra small lounges and a movie room. We were educated with each of the excursions due to the local guides. The crew was great in every aspect. If you want a cruise where you have choices in the different levels of excursions, a variety of dining experiences, space to chill or socialize and amazing views on either side of the ship, Amawaterways is the best. We took advantage of the transfers to and from airports. Amawatersways rep met us at our arrive airport and also took care of us on our trip to the airport going home. As a bonus, you meet so many different fellow travelers.
