Celebrity Edge

Celebrity Edge

Celebrity Edge®, the first ship in our stunning Edge® Series, is now one of the first resorts at sea to receive a Recommended Rating from Forbes Travel Guide. Celebrity Edge marks a turning point in our approach to ship design. From the very first sketches to experiencing those designs in a virtual reality setting, every step was done in 3-D. From the incredible new Magic Carpet® to the private plunge pools in our new 2-story Edge Villas, we could design the most refined ship at sea. The unique outward facing design breaks from traditional ship design. Aboard, you’ll feel more connected with the sea and the places you’ll visit in a variety of spaces ranging from our Edge Staterooms with Infinite Verandas®, to our reimagined, terraced pool deck that offers even greater views of the destinations and shimmer of ocean.

Celebrity Edge is sailing with Starlink - the world’s most advanced broadband satellite internet - to bring you high-speed connectivity for a better onboard experience.

Ship Reviews

We just wrapped up another cruise, and I wanted to share our experience. Spoiler: it was life-changing. Truly. That said, there were a few things that could have been better, and I’ll get into those as we go. We’ve sailed in The Retreat on Celebrity before, previously on Celebrity Apex, and we wanted to try it again on Celebrity Edge for Alaska. It was absolutely the right choice. For those who may not know, The Retreat is Celebrity Cruises’ suite program and private suite-class area. It includes access to its own lounge, sundeck, restaurant, and other dedicated amenities. For a sailing like Alaska, where the views are such a huge part of the experience, having that extra space and comfort really made a difference. Embarkation in Seattle Getting to the cruise port in Seattle, Pier 91, which is outside of downtown, was easy. Once we arrived, though, things were pretty chaotic. Pier 91 can support two ships at a time, and both ships use the same loading and unloading areas as well as the same terminal building. It was not very clear where bags should go, and we were also competing with passengers from the second ship. Once we finally dropped off our bags and entered the building, the Retreat check-in area was surprisingly slow. The regular check-in line actually seemed to be moving faster, which was not what we expected. This was very different from Celebrity’s Port Everglades experience in Fort Lauderdale, where The Retreat check-in felt much more elevated. There, we had a dedicated lounge, were able to sit down, and were offered drinks and snacks while the team came to us. In Seattle, once we were checked in, the Retreat waiting area was just a small room that really was not large enough to accommodate everyone. Thankfully, we did not have to wait long before boarding. First Impressions and Luminae Once onboard, we got our first look at the ship and headed to lunch in Luminae, the suite-class restaurant. Luminae did not disappoint, and that remained true for the entire week. Our server, Kadek, was absolutely wonderful. The service was excellent, and the food was consistently amazing. The sirloin steak in Luminae was actually better than the steakhouse, which is not something I expected to say, but here we are. Apparently, Luminae came to play. The Retreat and Our Sky Suite The rest of The Retreat area and sundeck were great and offered plenty of space. We stayed in a Sky Suite, and it was the perfect room for this trip. The balcony ended up being one of the best parts of the entire cruise. It was the perfect viewing spot for the Inside Passage and Dawes Glacier, especially since we sailed through that area very early in the morning. Being able to take in those views from our own balcony, without rushing around or fighting for space, was incredible. For Alaska specifically, having a balcony really is worth it. Celebrating a Birthday in The Retreat One thing I have to mention: if you celebrate a birthday onboard while staying in The Retreat, be prepared to be spoiled. I celebrated my 35th birthday during this sailing, and Celebrity really went above and beyond. I was treated to three cakes throughout the day: one at breakfast, one waiting for us in our cabin, and another at Fine Cut Steakhouse. Our stateroom attendant and butler (Ahmed and Kennedy) also decorated our room, which was such a sweet surprise. Funny enough, I initially yelled at my husband because I assumed he was behind it. I am not someone who makes a big deal about my birthday, so naturally my first reaction was, “What did you do?” Turns out, it was not him at all. It was such a thoughtful touch and really made the day feel special. The Retreat team clearly pays attention, and those little moments are what make the experience feel so personal. Food and Specialty Dining Overall, our food experience was amazing. We ate at Luminae, the buffet, Le Petit Chef, Le Grand Bistro, Eden, and Fine Cut Steakhouse. The specialty dining standouts were definitely Eden and Fine Cut. Eden was an amazing experience from start to finish. The food was excellent, and we had a great view of the kitchen the entire time. The staff and chef even came over to introduce themselves and thank us for coming as we were getting ready to leave. It felt personal, polished, and memorable. Fine Cut was also excellent. Our server, Jerry, was hilarious and incredibly meticulous. He recommended that we get the tomahawk steak at no additional charge, and it was absolutely worth it. I do not think I have ever eaten that much steak in my life. My husband had the filet and loved it, although we both agreed that the filet in Luminae was slightly better. That seems to be a recurring theme for us when we sail suite class and then visit the steakhouse. Luminae quietly wins again. A Few Dining Disappointments Unfortunately, Le Petit Chef and Le Grand Bistro were disappointments. We originally only had Le Petit Chef reserved. When we arrived, our group was split across three separate tables, which was not ideal. On top of that, while our food orders were taken quickly, our drink orders were not placed or delivered until we were almost at the main course. At one point, it looked like half the restaurant did not have drink orders, while only one person was handling drinks. Meanwhile, I noticed three servers standing off to the side watching. I understand that food and beverage service may be handled by different departments, but from a guest perspective, it did not look good for the overall team. Service as a whole was also very slow, and the second-course fish was underdone. I shared this feedback with our Retreat Concierge, and the manager for Le Petit Chef and Le Grand Bistro apologized. They offered us lunch at Le Grand Bistro as a way to make up for the experience, which we appreciated. However, the service at lunch was still slow. The food itself was good, but the overall experience still fell short compared to the rest of the cruise. The Ports The ports were beautiful. Ketchikan was cold and rainy, but we still enjoyed learning about the local culture. Juneau was gorgeous, sunny, and our whale-watching excursion was great. The highlight, though, was Skagway. I know the White Pass Railway is one of the most popular excursions there, but it truly was the highlight of the trip for us. It was absolutely worth every cent. The views, the history, and the overall experience were incredible. Final Thoughts Would we sail Celebrity Edge again? Absolutely. The ship is beautiful, The Retreat experience was excellent overall, Luminae was outstanding, and Alaska from a Sky Suite balcony was unforgettable. That said, since this was our second time sailing Alaska, I think we are probably done with that region for now and ready for the next bucket-list destination. But if you are considering Alaska, you really cannot go wrong with Celebrity Edge. It is one of the best ships sailing that region, and this was a cruise we will never forget.

This was my second sailing on Celebrity but first on Edge class, and my 20th overall; I have sailed all other major lines. I booked this sailing about 2.5 years in advance for an excellent price and was excited to do a new-to-me itinerary with only one flight leg (I live near Vancouver, the end port), and experience the Solo Infinite Balcony room. I stayed one night at Holiday Inn Express Waikiki, which had a small but comfortable room with an excellent ocean view. Boarding: Honolulu cruise terminal was very efficient and the check in process smooth, though not quite as fast as my previous Celebrity experience in Fort Lauderdale. However, I went from curb to room in about 25 minutes. This cruise offered later arrival times, starting at 12pm, possibly because of the later departure time of 6pm. My arrival time was 12:30-1pm. Of note, we did not have any kind of sailaway party, again likely because of the departure time. Muster check in began at 1pm, and then I had lunch at the Mast Grill and was able to take a number of photos around the upper decks before many people had arrived. Stateroom: I selected a starboard side room near the aft elevators, and this was a wonderful location. There was very little noise aside from occasional slamming doors, and just steps from the elevator atrium. The room is sized perfectly for a solo traveler, though they could certainly do better with storage options, as there is a decent sized closet with plenty of hanging space but only two shelves in the cabinet and three open cubbies in the nightstand - no drawers. They have added a few small drawers to the desk on the newer Edge class ships, but not Edge herself. There is also a small stool (?) that opens and I used that as a laundry hamper. I am definitely a fan of the Infinite Balcony style, which I had never sailed before. The floor to ceiling view was awesome, even with the lifeboat partially obstructing the view downward (no obstruction looking out to the horizon, so Celebrity classifies this as 0% obstructed). They provide a tote bag (yours to take), an umbrella, and a robe in the room. Toiletries are of good quality and the bathroom is large enough with a very spacious shower. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. I do love the purple accents in this room, as it’s my favorite color, and similar to if I were choosing decor for my own room. Included Dining Choices: I purchased the Unlimited Specialty dining package so didn’t eat a ton of the included options. Oceanview Cafe, the buffet, had plenty of seating - I never had an issue finding someplace to sit at any time of day - and I love the huge windows. The food was of good quality for the most part (I wish they would stop trying to pass off what is clearly not pork sausage as port sausage, however!) and there were many choices. I ate dinner in Tuscan Restaurant the first night and was seated immediately, and the food was very good. I also ate at Mast Grill twice for burgers/hot dogs, and it was never busy. Debarkation morning I ate at Cosmopolitan Restaurant and I can highly recommend the apple pancake and the French omelette. Specialty Dining: I ate at all the specialty restaurants except for Raw on 5. The second night was scheduled as Dinner on the Edge, on the Magic Carpet. We were still docked in Hilo at the time, so perhaps not as exciting as being out at sea. The food and service was excellent, but the charcuterie and seafood platters I received as a solo diner were the same size as those for two people, so definitely some food waste there. I am glad I did it once but likely would not return in the future. Eden was very nice but the ship was rocking and rolling during my meal and somehow it was worse down in the restaurant at the aft than in my room. Rooftop Garden Grill was my standout dining choice, after eating there for lunch and dinner. I would absolutely return there again in the future. It’s definitely a slept on location, as it was nearly empty both times. They are a little more relaxed about the dress code up there, and provide blankets and turn on the heat lamps if it’s cool. Fine Cut Steakhouse I also ate at for lunch and dinner. The crab cake appetizer is better at Eden, and I wasn’t terribly impressed overall, though the mac n cheese side was tasty and so was the Ultimate Chocolate Sundae. I did eat at Le Grand Bistro for lunch one day but wasn’t terribly hungry, so I only ordered a sandwich. I asked for it on a croissant (a lighter option) but it came on a baguette. Oh well. It was good though! And my final dinner was at Le Petite Chef, which was cute, but I ate most of the items from “The Other Menu” which doesn’t correspond with the show. If I were to do this again, I would make sure the main menu matches my tastes. Excursions: I booked both of my excursions through Viator. In Hilo, I did a tour that included time at Volcanoes National Park, Rainbow Falls, a candy/macadamia nut store, a walk through a lava tube, and some time at Liliʻuokalani Gardens. It was mostly guests from the ship, though we did stop to pick up one couple from a local hotel. In Kailua Kona, I did a Walking Food Tour, which had some guests from the ship and a few that were staying in the area. This was really good, I enjoyed all of the food and drinks that we tried, even trying poke for the first time! We did tender in Kailua Kona and I like that Celebrity uses their own lifeboats as tenders (and the one outside my room was in service, so I had an unobstructed view for a bit!); it’s certainly more comfortable seating than the usual tender boats in, say, Cabo San Lucas. However, there is limited ventilation/air flow and it was so, so hot while we were waiting to be able to access the pier. I found myself grabbing a cooling towel when I got *off* the tender instead of their usual purpose of cooling down guests returning to board the tender. Activities/Entertainment: I saw both Colors of Life and A Hot Summer’s Night Dream in full, and most of Bring the Funk, the three in-house production shows. All of them were very good, and while I’ve only been on two of Celebrity’s ships, their theatre shows have consistently had the best singers of any cruise line I’ve experienced. I also saw Wonders of Eden: Shimmerbox which was very different than I thought it might be, it *definitely* was meant for an adult audience, and I thought the singers there were not as good. I did see Lou Gazzara, an excellent entertainer, in the main theatre, and also a just okay magician. ABBA party was very fun. I participated in a few trivia rounds and watched some game shows - the Miracle Lyrical show with cruise director Alex was listed as lasting 30 minutes, and for some reason it was actually an hour and 15 minutes, which is actually crazy, and why I missed part of Bring the Funk. I also was able to experience the Captain’s Club Behind the Scenes theatre tour (thank you Royal Caribbean status match!) which was great, aside from the entitled passengers who missed the fine print that this required an RSVP to attend. They were shouting at the poor crew member letting people in. Complimentary mimosas were offered, and I enjoyed hearing stories from the entertainers and seeing the stage, backstage, and dressing room. Disembarkation: This was not the smoothest experience I’ve ever had, through no fault of Celebrity’s. I was able to have my disembarkation time changed to 8:35am by speaking to Guest Services, as that was the earliest general public slot available with luggage assistance. My bus via Quick Shuttle was scheduled to depart the cruise port at 9:10am, and having disembarked in Vancouver before, I know it is usually a pretty quick experience. I was done with breakfast and waiting for my group to be called by about 8:20. However, there was an issue with the conveyor machines that the port uses to transport the luggage from ship to pier, and that significantly delayed things. I was beginning to panic as I was supposed to be at work that afternoon, and then I got an email that the bus was also delayed by 10-20 minutes. I did get off the ship around 9:15, and power walked out of the terminal. The bus ended up departing an HOUR late, which is crazy, and as such I was late to work. This is my third time using Quick Shuttle and two of those experiences have now been a bit questionable. General Ship Thoughts: This ship is BEAUTIFUL. It’s very classy. In my mid-30s, I was definitely in the youngest .5% of people onboard for this sailing, so a little bit out of place - that was not so much the case on my previous sailing for a 4-Night Key West/Nassau route on Silhouette. There were just a handful of children that I ever saw. I like that the main pool is quite large for a cruise ship, and there is more than enough pool seating. While the weather got cooler and more overcast as we sailed north, the first few days many people were at the outdoor pool, and I didn’t encounter any “chair hogs”; in fact, crew were often around pointing out places to sit. This was true even as the indoor pool became more crowded; still able to find a single seat. The two deck walking track is great and the Rooftop Gardens are a lovely place to hang out. The ship is a great size and despite being close to or completely sold out, never felt crowded. The Club is a cool venue but it gets very hot in there, there aren’t any windows, and the pumped in fog is a little much. The crew were excellent, including my stateroom attendant, Chandra. I enjoyed this ship so much that I booked her sister Beyond while onboard for spring 2028 (other cruiselines are already booked in the meantime). I really liked that I never had to sign for anything except a purchase in the gift shop. Even without a drink package, never had to sign for a soda (which, by the way, are an outrageous $6/can so I stopped to buy some onshore in Kilaua Kona!) or a meal. Everything you could possibly need is provided.

Specialty Dining

We wanted to expand our global culinary expertise even further on Celebrity Edge. To open the world—and palates—of our savvy travellers even more, we designed exciting new specialty restaurants found nowhere else at sea. Gather on board for movie night under the stars, silent disco parties, hot glass classes, and archery tournaments —so many activities to share. Don’t miss the views from the Lawn Club or the Resort Deck, which provides the ultimate backdrop for a picture-perfect family photo.

Family Friendly Excursions

One of the top reasons we’re one of the best cruise lines for families is because we offer an array of family-friendly shore excursions at over 300 port destinations. With activities varying from cultural tours to thrilling water sports, families will have no trouble finding a number of exciting excursions such as swimming with dolphins, hiking up volcanoes or glaciers, and strolling through ancient Mayan ruins.
