Ship Reviews

We stayed in cabin (Magic Carpet Sky Suite) on Celebrity Ascent and personally would not choose this cabin location again. The balcony itself was large and the side window was nice, but there were significant downsides for us. If the ship was rocking at all, the cabin became very loud. The cabin door and balcony door constantly made noise throughout the night — it honestly sounded like someone was trying to enter the room repeatedly. Sleep was difficult on rougher nights. The Magic Carpet overhang was also much more noticeable than expected. You could clearly see it above, and we could hear noise/music coming from that area at times. Luminae was also a big disappointment for us. The staff often seemed slow and the food was very mediocre overall. One evening I didn’t even receive my cocktail until after dinner had already been served. We actually ended up spending much more time eating in the Oceanview Cafe than we expected. The suite itself was modern and comfortable, and the Retreat staff were generally excellent, but the cabin location and dining experience outweighed the positives for us. We would choose a different Sky Suite location next time.

My wife’s and my recent transatlantic crossing (our first) on Celebrity Ascent (our fourth on an Edge-class ship, and seventh with Celebrity) from April 20th to May 4th was one of our most enjoyable and memorable cruises to date. This was our seventh cruise with Celebrity, and once again the consistency of service, hospitality, and attention to detail reaffirmed why Celebrity has become our cruise line of choice. Throughout the ship - from dining venues to bars to The Retreat - the service was exceptional. Every team member we interacted with was warm, professional, and seemed to us to be genuinely committed to making guests feel both welcome and valued. To my wife and me, this culture of hospitality remains one of Celebrity’s defining strengths. Dining Raw on 5, Fine Cut, Eden, and Luminae delivered consistently excellent meals, supported by attentive service that enhanced each experience. The teams in these venues struck the right balance between efficiency and genuine engagement. Bars & Lounges The Martini Bar was a daily highlight. The combination of energy, entertainment, and guest interaction created an atmosphere we looked forward to every day, often being joined by our neighbours from Brisbane, as well as fellow passengers we met during the cruise. The Retreat & Luminae We were fortunate to experience The Retreat and Luminae during this cruise, and both greatly exceeded our expectations. The combination of quiet, well‑designed spaces and attentive service made our cruise even more luxurious, enjoyable, and memorable. Stateroom Experience Our stateroom attendant was among the very best we’ve had during sixteen cruises since 2006 - proactive, meticulous, and consistently thoughtful, enquiring every day if we needed anything special done for us (the cruise was in celebration of my recent retirement). Entertainment "World Class". Just one example, Residency: "Residency" is a high-energy stage production inspired by the legendary long-term "residencies" (think Elvis, Elton John, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, and The Rat Pack) that have defined the Las Vegas Strip for generations (I saw Frank Sinatra perform live there way back in 1987). Looking Ahead The transatlantic crossing on Ascent reinforced why Celebrity continues to stand out to both my wife and me: exceptional service, a hospitality culture that is both genuine and consistent, and, for us, unbeatable value for money given the overall product. We disembarked with excellent memories and are very much looking forward to our next Celebrity cruise later this year. We fortunately have six future cruises booked with Celebrity. This level of commitment reflects the trust and confidence we have in the brand, and is why we so very highly recommend Celebrity Cruises to our family and friends.

Overall, a wonderful cruise, our best cruise, and the best ship cruised on, to date. Both embarkment and disembarkation was smooth, efficient on time and without any issues or crowding. Spacious and nicely furnished cabin with an extremely comfortable bed. Plenty of space for storage although some of the drawers were a little on the shallow side. Also, the room safe was far too small for even an average side handbag or tablet. Good sized shower cubicle with a powerful shower, although due to a poorly designed shower waterflow handle, it was almost impossible to turn the shower on when hands were soapy, so had to leave the shower running a little, thus wasting water. This handle needs to be re-designed. Large buffet with plenty of food variety and the food was of a high quality. Only negatives were, hard to find a table during busy times and the table staff were very slow in picking up empty plates from tables and many a time we would come back to our table with food, only to see the empty plates still there. Even saw people eating breakfast with a stacked pile of 2 or 3 empty plates next to them. By far the slowest empty plate removal of any cruise line that We have sailed to date. Also, a staff member may pick up the empty plates from one table and then leave ignoring (or not seeing) the empty plates on a neighbouring table. Or pick up an empty plate from a table but leave the empty glass. This is clearly an area where Celebrity needs to improve significantly. The MDR menu was rather limited and even more limited in terms of vegetarian options. Hence, because my wife is a vegetarian, we only had 3 evening meals in the MDR during the 11 nights as there was nothing vegetarian that my wife liked on the other nights. Both the regular menu and vegetarian menu not only need to have more options in general but also more variety from one evening to another. Other than the magic/illusion show, the only show the we truly enjoyed was Smoke & Ivories, not sure why this show was held in The Club and not in the main theatre, as more people could have enjoyed it then. As for the actual theatre shows; Bridges was decent, Awaken was ok and Residency was below average. We skipped all other evening productions as these were mostly vocalist performances. Unlike on other cruise lines/ships, taking photos and videos of the shows was encouraged. Note, needed to turn up almost 30 minutes before the start of the show to be able to get a seat and even then, there were long line ups to get in. This ship doesn't have activities like mini golf, rock climbing wall, etc thus may not be the ship for you if you want these types of activities. Most of the activities were of the seated variety such as quizzes, origami, painting and cooking/pizza making. There were very few children and hardly any teenagers on our cruise, reflecting the limited activities for these age groups. The ship was nicely decorated throughout, however it was hard to find decent places available for quiet reading due to either being too close to a bar or music lounge or poor/too dim lighting. Finally, on this ship there was no pressure from the ship photographers to be photographed.

Well this was our first cruise and despite some of the disappointment we definitely loved cruising. So starting on the positive direction Celebrity Ascent was an absolutely amazing Ship! It's beautiful, well laid out, full of fantastic venues beautiful and elegant Great little hidden cozy spots to hang out big spaces that are open and airy it really has something for everyone. It was a special anniversary (30 yrs) so we did the Sunset Veranda it also was amazing! Very comfortable, plenty of room and storage the veranda was spacious with four chairs to 2 sitting & 2 loungers seeing the sunset and rise really was dreamy. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom also had plenty of space to move around with both of us getting ready the shower had great pressure, stayed hot for 2 showers in a row. I'm hooked on the aft there was no soot at least not on Ascent (I know some reviews I've read mention this )we had no issues with soot or noise. It actually was so nice and quiet it felt like we had our own private sanctuary. It's a tad of a walk to the elevator and stairs ( another thing I have heard people complain about) we had no issues at all! We loved it! As far as movement because again people say you feel it in the forward and the aft. Very slightly and it's more of an occasional slight sway not much but this was the situation in our case . The entertainment was top notch ! Really impressive all over the ship especially in the theater. I'll add that we never had to wait or struggle to find a seat we always did the last show which was the later time 9:00 or 9:30 . Embarkation was very organized went pretty quickly . I will mention we spent the extra money for Premium Access this is something that I wouldn't ever do again. There really wasn't anything Premium about it no earlier than anyone else boarding it isn't printed on any of your information boarding passes or luggage tags. They gave us a hard time saying that we didn't have it , luckily I had the hard copy from the purchase after 15 minutes they finally let us sit in an area with about 75 other people. There was no pre boarding beverages or snacks,no earlier than anyone else luggage delivery,no special seating for the show which we didn't need anyway. The only thing was the embarkation lunch whoopy! So save the money for something else lesson learned. The food was great most of the time. My first dinner was horrible the Beef Wellington was like shoe leather needless to say the staff didn't really seem to care and our waiter didn't even offer to get me something else? Instead they decided to bring out a piece of cake with Happy Anniversary on it which was nice but this wasn't what I expected for dinner let alone on the first night? So here's the Con's Our room attendant did a decent job with our cabin but when we arrived she never introduced herself we never even saw her; almost every cruiser that I'd listen to, read about or watched says this is the time you make any requests you might have which for me was just to have our ice filled daily. So upon returning to our cabin I was wondering why nobody had come after hours to introduce them selves? So I called the number on a card that was by the desk she answered I introduced myself and politely asked if we could get some ice, she told me she was on a break and we'd get it sometime later on? After the dinner situation we still hadn't received our ice I called again and she said Do you have to have it now! An hour later she brought the Ice at which time I gave her a $20 tip thinking how busy the day must is , she is only one person. I would have never even known her name if it wasn't for the card . She bought the ice on occasion we never saw her for the entire time we were on board. We had an excursion booked and needed towels for the morning that I also had to call for it just seemed like nobody cared . I'll add that we also tipped her the day before our final day for her services on top of prepaid gratuity saw her in the hallway in the morning she never said a word to us . Another lesson learned. Being a newbie and educating myself on a whole the level of service was a big disappointment the bartenders were rude we were told on multiple occasions that they were out of coconut water, Red Bull, tequila, flavored seltzer water (and this was early in the day) and they won't have any more. When you pay for a package that is advertised to have certain products that is what you should get! The staff really was generally miserable considering that Celebrity is supposed to have a reputation of great service which is why we choose this cruise line for our very special occasion it was a very big disappointment. We didn't let it spoil our first cruise and we definitely are cruising again which is on Celebrity hopefully our upcoming experience will be different than the last. All the stories about the pool chairs hogs are absolutely true which is also a drag to have to be so mythical getting up at 5 am to get a place to enjoy your day on a vacation by the pool is just ridiculous but I guess It comes with the territory Eden was fabulous the food was excellent along with the service well worth the price. All in all the Cruise was amazing

While we always enjoy our Celebrity cruises this one seems a little different! The crew was amazing as was our cabin & the food. The most notable disappointment was the production shows - the recorded music was so loud that you could not hear the singers. We felt so sorry for the cast members who work so hard on these shows. The floor actually vibrated under our feet - I had to use earplugs just to attend. Such ashame ! Even when we talked with people in charge - nothing was adjusted. People were actually walking out - I have never seen that before ! This Panama Canal itinerary was great ! We has a Sunset Veranda Cabin & found the location to be a long walk to elevators. The food in the buffet was outstanding! This is a beautiful spotless ship that has a well trained friendly crew. We will sail on her again.
