Ship Reviews

We ate in the Blu restaurant for breakfast and dinner, the food was excellent and the service was great. One dinner in the Tuscan Grille was not good. Overall the staff were great. Ship was very clean. After room was noisy due to the noise from the movie screen just above. The television is very small. Room attendant was terrific. We had the drink package and never had a problem getting a drink. The wait staff in the Blu restaurant were excellent,. The theatre show regarding broadway songs was excellent. The female soloist Jen Maldonado was excellent putting on two shows, Celebrity made the week long cruise highly satisfied. It was a great break from reality. I would highly recommend them for a cruise. The gulf of America waters were very calm. You hardly knew you were on a cruise. The aft cabin balcony was very large with four chairs

17th Celebrity Cruise | Repeat Constellation Guest | Repeat Penthouse Suite This December 21st sailing aboard Celebrity Constellation marked our 17th cruise with Celebrity, and yet another return to a ship—and a suite—we know well. We learned there were over 300 children on board this Christmas 7-night sailing, but only 3 children in Retreat-level rooms, a stat we thought worth sharing as it is sometimes asked on this forum.  We found programming to be plentiful and well-attended by all sorts of guests throughout this ship.  We are repeat guests on Constellation and longtime devotees of the Penthouse Suite in this ship class, which, in our view, remains one of the most glorious cabins at sea. Our excellent Butler Radu shared that in terms of cabin and outdoor combined square footage it is the largest cabin in the fleet (even larger than the iconic suites on Edge-class).  With its massive wrap-around balcony, sweeping views, and two full bathrooms, it is perfectly configured for cruising with a spouse and an adult child. Once again, the Penthouse did not disappoint and for us was, along with several great crew members, the star of the sailing. The Penthouse Experience The suite itself was superb, as expected. Spacious, serene, and endlessly livable, it continues to be the single most compelling reason we return to Millennium-class ships. A delightful surprise awaited us early on: monogrammed pajamas. We had assumed this amenity had been phased out, so it was genuinely nice to see it return—small touches like this matter, especially at the top end of the product. That said, a few VIP elements felt diminished compared with past sailings in this very same cabin. The bridge tour, for example, was awkwardly timed—scheduled just before the Captain’s announcement—resulting in an abbreviated and rushed experience. It felt short-changed, particularly given how special this opportunity should be. We also missed the VIP officers’ lunch, which we had enjoyed on a previous Constellation sailing in the Penthouse. That lunch included meaningful interaction and even a small commemorative gift. Its absence was noticeable and disappointing. One wonders where these moments of genuine connection have gone. Ports of Call We wish Celebrity would take on at least a couple of new and different ports on any of its sailings.  Especially with these smaller ships, can’t the line try for some interesting/unique stops?  We would like to see 1-2 new for them ports inserted in these very tried and true itineraries. Holiday Observances As practicing Catholics, we were pleased to see that Midnight Mass was offered on Christmas Eve at 11:00 PM, which was appreciated and well attended. However, we were disappointed that no Mass was offered on Christmas Day itself. Instead, a multi-denominational service was held. With a Catholic priest onboard, it would have been both appropriate and welcome to offer Mass on Christmas Day.  We heard from others who decided to not attend the midnight service who were then caught off guard with no option the next day. Dining: Highs and Lows Sushi on Five was an unexpected highlight. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. We enjoyed it enough that we ordered dumplings multiple times to enjoy during sailaways on that amazing deck—proof that good food finds its way into your routine onboard. Tuscan was not what it once was.  While beef dishes remain solid, its actual Italian fare was disappointing.  And let’s stop calling pasta alfredo carbonara… as they are different preparations and dishes.  RIP Celebrity Carbonara.  Glad to have gotten the recipe from you when you shared it on social media during the COVID shutdown, lol.  Overall, Tuscan needs a refresh as an Italian dining option.  Other lines are doing better in that offering. One of the strongest benefits of sailing in this class of ship with Celebrity remains the Retreat Dining Room. The ability to order from three menus—the Retreat/Luminae menu, the Main Dining Room, and Blu—is exactly what elite cruising should be about. Choice, flexibility, and personalization. This remains a standout feature of the Celebrity experience, and its absence in other class ships is one reason we don’t sail them. Unfortunately, desserts and pastries were a consistent disappointment throughout the sailing. Even basic standards like crème brûlée were not properly set, and some pastries had thick, stale crumb. Overall, the dessert program felt subpar and needs attention. Retreat & Public Spaces Wi-Fi worked very well throughout the cruise, which was appreciated. Crowding, however, was a recurring theme. We noticed it in the Retreat Lounge, Retreat Dining Room, and particularly on the aft sunset deck. Extra tables were added in the Luminae Dining Room, and when rain forced outdoor Oceanview seating inside, the space felt overrun. The ship was clearly sailing full—and it showed. The library was dismal. Poorly curated, uninspiring, and frankly a waste of space. If Celebrity is going to maintain a library, it needs to be far more thoughtfully stocked. Otherwise, repurpose it. Service, Standards, and Behavior While many crew members continue to uphold Celebrity’s “Modern Luxury” promise, there were cracks—especially in guest behavior and how it was handled. Some Retreat guests behaved in ways that were simply not classy. Adult bare feet on furniture in the Retreat Lounge is not acceptable. This is where the Retreat Concierge needs to step in and set standards. Sebastian and Conor—this is part of the role. That sort of behavior is not what we expect when sailing with Celebrity. Similarly, chasing down top-shelf liquor is not luxury. We did not appreciate being told that certain premium spirits were only available in specific venues like the Rendezvous Lounge. When you are staying in the Penthouse and paying top dollar, the expectation is that the bartender chases down the bottle—not the guest. Celebrity needs to flip this mindset.  Sorry if that sounds snobbish or promotes an eye roll from you (I get why it might), but this is a big difference between, say, Regent Seven Seas or Crystal and Celebrity… and Celebrity’s now excelling price point forces the comparison with those ultra-luxury lines and it comes up lacking. The Martini Bar was noticeably less crowded than on other sailings, which may have had less to do with demand and more to do with energy. The bartenders, while professional, were not particularly festive or engaging out of the gate. That spark matters—especially in such an iconic venue. Finally, toiletries in Retreat staterooms are overdue for an upgrade. Sorry, but this is the recurring theme: at this price point, the product should feel more elevated. Final Thoughts This sailing offered a wonderful break overall, with a slightly different vibe departing from Tampa rather than Fort Lauderdale or Miami. Celebrity still has standout staff and a ship class that, in many ways, remains beloved—especially because of that smaller size and that extraordinary Penthouse Suite. However, the Retreat experience is no longer competitively priced for what is delivered. Competitors such as Crystal, Regent Seven Seas, Explora, MSC Yacht Club and others offer materially more service for the dollar. Celebrity needs to watch its price point carefully. In some cases, it has priced itself into—and even beyond—the ultra-premium market without delivering a commensurate experience. Frankly, if it weren’t for that glorious Penthouse on the Millennium-class ships, we are not sure we would continue to patronize Celebrity at current pricing. That cabin remains magic. The rest of the experience needs to catch up
