The better-than-new Insignia blends sophistication with a contemporary flair to create a casually elegant ambiance that embodies the most treasured elements of our celebrated ships. Every surface of every suite and stateroom is entirely new, while in the public spaces, a refreshed colour palette of soft sea and sky tones surrounds a tasteful renewal of fabrics, furnishings and lighting fixtures that exquisitely encompasses the inimitable style and comfort of Oceania Cruises.

Ship Reviews

This was a novel time for us to travel, but it met all of our expectations as we love the cruise line. We're repeat travelers on Oceania so we were very familiar with the smaller ship amenities, dining, and daily routines. The itinerary was mostly a positive - we took 4 excursions and improvised our own plans to see the other ports, and that worked well (especially for staying out of the midday sun). Even though we visited some towns during holiday closures, the sponsored sightseeing still operated well. Exception was Port Antonio, Jamaica - it would have been just fine to enjoy the bar at shipside rather than take any tour there. Judging from our shipmates, many with more than 20 cruises, the Oceania 2-week sailing is clearly a popular way to spend the holidays, being pampered and soaking up as much or as little of the sights as you wish. It's a little more relaxed than other O cruises with respect to dress and the number of kids on board (but still fewer than 20 youths, I would estimate). Some of the crew were able to host their families on board for the holiday, which was a very nice vibe.

This was our 4th cruise on Oceania, along with 2 on NCL and 1 on Azamara. We hadn't been on Oceania for a few years and reading some of the reviews on this site made me a little apprehensive that Oceania standards had slipped over the past few years - TLDR, we found nothing of the sort. Crew was wonderful, food was great, ship was spotless. Embarkation in Barbados - was fine. We had to drop off our luggage and then wait for a bus to take us to the ship but the wait wasn't long. Cabin - We usually travel in a basic Veranda room, but we had a big family group so we decided to upgrade to a Vista suite on the front of the ship so we could have hang out space for the family. The room was very spacious, Sam the butler was very helpful (got us reservations for 8 at the specialty restaurants three times, even though the ship was full and we did not reserve before we got on). The balcony is not really as big as it looks in the layout photo because the ship slopes back into it, but the views off the front were incredible - we watched many a sail away and sunset from our room. We definitely felt the ship move, and we have been seasick on ships before, but no problems this time. We did not have any restrictions on lights at night (some reviews said we would need the curtains closed at night when the ship was underway in order not to interfere with the bridge - on Insignia at least this was not an issue). Bedding, as always, was divine. An aspect to the big cabin that I did not anticipate - we spent a lot less time in the public areas than we usually do. We hosted happy hour in our room (6 free bottles of liquor) and didn't bother going to the library, game room, etc. Some of us even did yoga in our room. That could be an upside or a downside depending on your personality, I guess. We did not take advantage of dinner in our room since we were with a big group and we enjoy restaurants. Food - as usual, Oceania hits this out of the park. Maybe even a little better than I remember, given that some more spice is creeping into the offerings - one of my favorites this cruise was the Goan (Portuguese influenced city in India) fish curry at the lunch buffet - yum. Our butler, Sam, made sure to tell us when the best menus were at the GDR and he was spot on. We found the Grand dining room excellent, Toscana even better, and (just like on prior cruises) Polo to be just ok. Steak houses are tough to pull off well, so no shade at Oceania, but the ribeye was forgettable (but the sides were excellent). The lunches and breakfasts were great, and the coffee drinkers among the group were delighted with Baristas. Entertainment - we went to trivia every day, Carson was great. We also went to more shows than we usually do, and found them to be better than I remembered. Played a poker tournament at the casino which was fun. One suggestion for Oceania - get rid of the casino. It was almost always empty, and it is right in the middle of everything. Would make a great lounge. Ports - we did a couple of excursions (snorkeling and kayaking in St Vincent and river tubing in Dominica) and they were both very good (surprised me a bit, since I usually like to wander on my own). I had read a lot on CC about Oceania missing ports and was perplexed (never missed a port with Oceania but missed 2 on my one cruise with Azamara, one due to poor scheduling and one due to engine failure), but sure enough we missed St. Barts. We went all the way there, anchored and put a tender out, but the Captain decided it was too rough to go ashore so we had an extra sea day. My SIL's reaction was a huge fist pump, if that gives you any indication of how much she enjoyed the ship:). We all booked another vacation on Oceania, this time back in the Mediterranean. If you like a chill, really comfortable cruise with great food, great itineraries and just enough to keep you entertained when on board, Oceania is for you. Not sure why there are so many poor reviews on here - there are always things to nitpick, of course, but if this kind of experience is disappointing for you, let's trade lives!:)

We had an excellent cruise with Oceania on the Insignia. The service was excellent the itinerary was delightful. Our excursions were very interesting. We learnt a lot about each destination we had our excursions at: St-Lucia & the Dominican Republic coffee plantation. We really enjoyed the food as well. I enjoyed the variety of options from rich cuisine to lighter fare, so that all could enjoy their meals. I enjoyed my more vegetarian choices while my spouse enjoyed the meat, fish & more exotic options. Not all choices I made were my favourite but I enjoyed most of what I chose. New discovery: Waves Grill is a Pizzaria in the evenings & the pizza is awesome! A final note to all cruisers there are many negative people out there. The experience is what you make it so remember to enjoy every moment you are on this beautiful earth, cruising is a great way to experience the world and see more places at once.
