I was pleasantly surprised. I travelled with my husband. We are 70 and 75 and i would say that most guests were over 65. We liked the odea of the medallion and that the cabin door unlocked when we neared the cabin. The recent bathroom update was an improvement with a slightly more rectangular shower and although there was a curtain, it was not one that sticks to your skin. There was plenty of storage in the bathroom for toiletries. The closet location was a more sensible layout with plenty of space for luggage too. We booked cabin which had a partially obstructed view but did not block any views. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed having room service breakfast. Our cabin attendant was super friendly and super efficient. Boarding and disembarkation were a breeze. We had excellent food and service in the main dining room and the ladies dealing with seating arrangements were very accommodating when we asked for the same table for each night. We found great breakfast and lunch selections in World Fresh Marketplace. I loved the sushi event and also the grand gateau event. We enjoyed the trivia, craft sessions and especially the live band and orchestra which we would have liked to have seen more of. One of the highlights was the cooking demonstration which was a comedic banter between the Maitre'd and the chef and was side splitting. Guest Services were very helpful as sometimes the App was malfunctioning. My only recommendation would be for the afternoon tea, which was served on sea days, to have the old fashioned set up of a tiered plate which would make a more relaxed atmosphere. We had 2 ports of call, Roatan and Cozumel. In Roatan we had prebooked a taxi and it was tailored to what we wanted including partaking in some excellent street food including iguana On the 2nd day we took the chairlift to Mahogany Bay. In Cozumel we walked around outside of the compound and found a place which served some tasty tacos and local juices.
Our first Princess cruise and we loved it. We are NCL Platinum members, however, NCL wasn't cruising to where we wanted to go in December, so we chose to try Princess - and we're glad we did. We booked a balcony cabin with the Princess Premier package for a 14 day cruise (a double up trip) to the western Caribbean and ABC Islands out of Ft. Lauderdale.. Embarkation at the Ft Lauderdale Cruise terminal was fairly simple and quick. We were onboard within an hour of arrival, and our luggage was delivered by 3pm. We found our balcony cabin to be smaller than on an NCL ship. It was quite aggravating to be stuck in the bathroom (because there was no room to open the door) if someone else was using the closet or going into the drawers or safe. But the room was more than manageable for clothing storage and other posessions. The balcony door was very hard to operate, but maintenance came and adjusted it to a more manageable level. Our room steward (Primo) was knowledgable and very helpful in getting us some "extra's" like feather pillows, robes and a second bed topper. He also made sure we had two bottles of water each day when he made up the room. The Majestic ship was beautiful. Decorated for Christmas with lots of Christmas music and a tree lighting in the Piazza on day 2. The crew (all of them) were excellent, always pleasant and willing to help, and we got to know quite a few as "regulars" in certain areas of the ship. Our major disappointment in the ship itself was the lack of specialty restaurants. Pre cruise, we tried to book our dining times, but we found (specifically with the Crown Grill) many of the early times were not available. This was with over 70 days left until the cruise too (we are now 87 days until our next cruise on the Ruby Princess and already 8 of the 16 days are "not available" for the Crown Grill). The menu's were somewhat "slim" in our experience. BUT THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC. The Buffet was surprisingly well stocked and we liked the "themed" days - but the layout was somewhat chaotic and they often ran out of cups and silverware midway through the serving time. Alfredo's Pizza in the Piazza was not to be missed. GREAT PIZZA - and that is coming from a New Yorker! However, avoid the Alfredo's Slice bar on the pool deck - the Pizza is not as good there for some reason. The Lotus Spa - The good was, unlike on other cruise lines, the Spa people were not pushy in the main hallways in trying to sell services. You could walk by and not get accosted by them. The Bad - once INSIDE the Spa for a treatment or service, they were VERY pushy, and my wife came out of a 90 minute session of pampering feeling stressed and uncomfortable. She never booked another session. We did purchase the Thermal Spa room - not impressed, it was, however, rarely used by others (Nobody buying into it??) so you did have no crowding there. The ship is well laid out, VERY clean, and we enjoyed walking around. The only issue I had was with the WiFi completely dying when in one of the public restrooms. It never worked. As for the Princess App - Ugh. I had heard mixed reviews about it, and at first when boarding it appeared to be quite the accomplishment. Until - it wasn't. The "tracking" function that supposedly allows you to pick a destination and the app directs you to it - Never Worked. Lag time was MINUTES, and there were times it placed my location in another part of the ship (usually the aft). Ocean Ready function for ordering drinks or food that would be delivered to your location worked 75% of the time. NOTE: we learned a full week into the cruise that sometimes your order would be sent to a bar or location that couldn't service the request - so the app simply marked the request as "delivered", or didn't update at all. It never alerted us to any problem, or to retry. It did work well for marking the ship schedule and allowing you to add things to "Your Schedule" - but doesn't provide any notice or alarm function for an upcoming favorite. The "Crew Call" chat function only worked once out of 7 tries - the rest of the time the app either never responded, or got caught up in a loop. The app really needs some work. Entertainment was varied and the content was well executed. However, we were not interested in some of the acts and had many conflicts with shows vs. other entertainment we wanted to see. We had to pick and chose carefully, so be prepared. The Medallion Class service is AWESOME. We had little trouble using it and it's so much nicer than carrying a room card. We purchased the Watch Band holders and loved it. The Casino - Smoking section is the main section where most of the games are, and the doors seperating it from the non smoking areas do not auto-close. They were constantly open and you really had second hand smoke everywhere in the adjacent areas. This is a sore spot for us. There were quite a few new slots we'd never seen before, and a couple of table games, too (High Flush Poker? Try it - its actually quite fun). Another nice change would be to have any remaining credits from the Casino sent to your shipboard account for use or refund. NCL does this, but on Princess (at least the Majestic) you HAVE to cash out at the Cashier center in the casino. Excursions - We found the excursions somewhat pricey on Princess and on one particular excursion, we almost missed it because we couldn't find the proper "line" to get on. Princess excursions use a hand held high plaquerd number system but the numbers are scattered all around the port. Shops - We frequented the Effy Jewelry events and spent much more than I expected on Jewelry for my wife - but they had some GREAT deals on beautiful pieces. The sales staff were NOT pushy, and their events were kept light hearted and fun. Thank you to Sanket, Marlon and Kai for a great experience. We had one issue with sizing of a piece that Effy is currently working on to fix. As for the other shops, they had a variety of products, but for me especially, no real Polo Shirts for the ship or cruise line itself. Only T-Shirt styles, so that was disappointing. Overall, we were quite pleased with our first Princess experience. We have another already booked in 87 days (a Hawaii 16 day trip!) and a third for an Alaskan adventure in 2027.
Everything was wonderful on this cruise. The activities were never ending and were very varied throughout. They had a lot of musical groups from pop, jazz, big band, to choose from for listening pleasure. The music trivia contests were my favorite thing to do. We were so much happier with the food on this cruise compared to other lines we had cruised in the past 2 years. The service was superb as was the food...beef wellington, prime rib, surf and turf were the best! The food court area even provided a menu for the week with the specialty items at embarkation. Cabin staff was so nice! We had a mini suite. We appreciated the fact that they offer self serve laundry on this ship. The nightly entertainment was great. We loved the comedians! The main shows were very unique. Very happy with that choice of cruises. We'll return to Princess.
embarkation and disembarkation well organized and fairly quick. Very clean ship, staff congenial and helpful. Still miss the cushions on the pool/deck lounge chairs. Towels readily available, and deckhands were checking the chair hogs. Only one real outside pool, a drawback to this ships design. Cabin was clean and comfy beds. Would prefer some better live tv offerings from cnbc and or florida. Food was adequate, but compared to our previous cruising days, not offering the menus of yesteryear...no rack of lamb, rack of veal, real larger lobster tails(crayfish), turkey, etc. I remember salads made tableside and also pasta made to order tableside.. All gone .. Thankful our maitre'd recognized this and provided offerings from the specialty fish venue, etc as options. they need to either charge a little more and up their game in the main dining room. Enough nickle and dime to redirect to the specialty venues. Captains circle offers no real options at the platinum level other than some appetizers pre dinner at the vista lounge. No drinks etc. Celebrity and RCL offer limited free drinks 5-7 every day for comparable levels in captains club.(and laundry, dry cleaning) Buffet was clean, offered a myriad of options for breakfast and lunch. Just missed my grapefruit in the mornings, couldnt find it? Very relaxing cruise with good stops.. Casino was smokey and gone are the 5 and 10 dollar tables..15 and above. limited tables , some dealers weren't overly friendly. overall recommend. Dj poolside needs to know his audience, hip hop and a 65+ crowd are not compatible.. Other bands and entetainers were good
