Ship Reviews

Ruby Member: There is a significant improvement overall since our last sailing a couple of years ago. Daily Princess Patter was informative, clear and precise. Production show was top class. Queues at Guest Services were typically short, but mostly via phone call was swift in answering queries from knowledgeable staffs. Our only minor gripe was the buffet (Horizon) and main restaurant food became too repetitive. The balcony cabins on deck 12 (Aloha) felt cramped in comparison to other ships and there was no sofa or second chair. The sensor lights were very useful for night visits to the toilet for elderly folks. The Diamond Plus package, which includes 15 drinks per person daily, was a good deal as it was already paid upfront, though we hardly ever reached the amount. It was good to know there would be no extra charges when we disembarked, aside from tour costs. Most guests were elderly; therefore, things were not rushed

"Diamond Princess was last refurbished in 2014, and the ship still gleams" <-- Not in all places. Enjoyed Japan and its people who were marvelous in Every city. The cities made the cruise. The ship itself needs quality maintenance. An example, are cracked tiles and those replaced were mismatched. Furnishings should be restained. Staff and food were excellent, although there wasn't the normal personal relationship with the room steward. The room was clean but not spotless in the corners and baseboards. Food was diverse, fresh and included high quality seafood in both the buffet and main dining rooms. For the buffet there was always an open table somewhere. Funny how none of the ice dispensers were working but there was always a tub of ice provided. Entertainment was average - a magic show with simple moves, a balloon animal entertainer, song and dance acts, etc. Although the theater was well attended each night.

We had a wonderful cruise, all aspects were first class. The staff were attentive and friendly and went the extra mile to ensure we had what we wanted. The Vivaldi dining room was very well managed all the staff were friendly and ensured we were happy with our food. The menu was varied and the food served was to a very high standard. The excursions offered an excellent insight into Japan, the guides were knowledgeable and very friendly. We have cruised many times but this cruise is one of the best we have experienced. Diamond Princess is one of the older ships in the Princess Fleet and she is showing her age, but that is the only criticism I have. We did a land tour prior to the cruise also arranged bt Princess this was also excellent, 5 star hotels and a guide who stayed with us for the full 5 days.

I knew this was an older Princess Cruise ship before I boarded, but it quickly became my favorite ship of the entire fleet. Why? The spa(s): if you like stream rooms/saunas, this ship is the jackpot. They are all over the place, and most are not all behind paywalls like the Enclave. Onboard entertainment: almost every single show was excellent, with a couple being the best I have seen and heard at sea. Bars/nightclub: Elegant and spacious. There is even a neon lit elevator leading to the nightclub (nice touch). A talented live band had kids, parents and the elderly dancing on packed dance floors. Service: fastest I've ever experienced. Great guest to staff ratio. Excursions: top notch. The Kumano Fireworks festival was an experience I'll never forget. Book on the port side and watch the dock as you leave ports. Only downsides: smaller Casino, and lacking some specialty restaurants.
