Ship Reviews

Pros: *Ship is more traditional and beautiful throughout *Premium entertainment *Attentive excellent crew as always *Plenty of bars *3 MDR’s with impeccable service *Food very good *Ship and cabins continually cleaned *Onboard customer service well staffed Cons: *Main pool and 4 hot tubs crawling with kids *Retreat’s good but pool really cold *Buffet gets a bit crowded so seating’s further *Movies Under the Stars geared less for adults *No promenade deck for walking *Dancing’s a challenge with little ones darting out onto the floor Closing Comments: *IMPORTANT: Carefully check ‘Folio Statements’ before disembarking. Later, compare to the credit card statement. Discrepancies showed in our last two Princess cruises that require prompt attention !!! *Fellow Cruisers were mostly wonderful and dressed well on formal nights. However, there were a few that should have been marched overboard after showing up at the MDR with flip flops, T shirts and a baseball hat. OMG, their lack of respect for the crew and other passengers got attention they weren’t expecting. Special Mention to the following: *To Martin and Wissem at the Allegro; the best ever !! *To Toniano and management of the Allegro MDR. Perfection ! *To Violinists; Simon and Olga. Wow! *To the Diamond Trio Band. Fabulous.

We fly to LA and used UBER to terminal. Boarding was fairly smooth. We had a pleasant cruise experience overall considering the ship is over ten years old and in need of a refurb. They had relevant fun activities available throughout the ship and the food quality and selection was better than we had experienced on other Princes ships. Apparently this ship was given a culinary award for it's food quality and service and it showed. Staff were attentive in the buffet and service in the dining room was great. The staff seemed genuine and always seemed helpful. Although the ship is starting to look tired it seemed to be kept impeccably clean, staff were routinely cleaning tables, chairs and wall surfaces. Our cabin was fine but they still have the shower curtain that gropes you instead of doors, the toilet often took multiple tries to flush, and there was no heat in our cabin, only AC. It was cold on sea days and were were shivering in our cabin with the heat cranked and only cold AC blowing in. Be aware that the ship is in port for very limited times, especially when you have to wait several hours just to tender into Cabo. Entertainment onboard was good, we enjoyed the comedy shows but found the "show stoppers" in the main theatre were usually all oldies music. The ship did have a slum party atmosphere at times with several passengers obnoxiously wandering around drunk by three o'clock or sitting all day in the hot tubs drinking. The gym was often busy and should be larger, they have 20 treadmills in a row, most were unused. The ports we visited seemed sketch. We did a ship excursion to a private resort in Mazatlán which was a pretty good deal.

This vacation we did 2 cruises back to back. The first cruise was with Royal Princess and the second was with Carnival Panorama. I liked the restful laid back atmosphere on the Royal Princess and it was great way to spend the first week of our cruise. The food was good and a good selection to choose from at the buffet. Royal Princess buffet was better than the Carnival Panorama but Carnival still has free lobster on their formal night. Princess still has two cleaning times per day but Carnival still has the cute towel animals. (And more towels in the cabin to use.). The hands free medallion on Royal Princess was convenient when entering the state room. If you have kids or youth with you I would recommend Carnival. Royal Princess didn’t have much for kids. Carnival Panorama has lots of fun things to do for the younger crowd (and the young at heart). What I hated most about Royal Princess was being treated as second class. Reserved seating for certain classes in the theatre meant less and poorer location for the rest of us and don’t dare sit on the comfy lounger by the pool even if you are literally the only person there. Need to pay extra to sit there. Carnival Panorama had plenty of comfy chairs and loungers in the adult only section.
