We once again enjoyed sailing on the Ruby Princess. As far as I am concerned, sharing joy with the crew and other passengers is what makes a cruise most memorable. The crew sets the festive, heart warming, and fun tone, and the passengers pick up on this quickly. Every elevator ride becomes a chance to make new friends. This is not a traditional review, but I can only say the over-riding sentiment was friendship and delight. To be sure the main dining room food was not as inviting as previous cruises and on board pricing for drinks, photos, bottled water had increased, but the pervading theme was enjoyment. The Cruise Director and her staff did an excellent job of presenting games and there was always one or more fun activities from which to choose. The energy level of the entertainment staff was extremely high. The production shows varied, food was plentiful and the mattress comfortable....a definite five star experience.
Our latest cruise on October 15th to the Mexican Riviera was wonderful. Ruby Princess is a lovely ship. From the International Cafe, auctions, food, service, cabin, makes for a very relaxing cruise. The staff is wonderful. Embarking and Disembarking was very organized. There are many employees guiding passengers on and off the ship. I enjoyed the food and service was great. The Piazza my favorite for morning coffee never disappoints and such a beautiful spot. We had a balcony cabin which had just a chair at a desk for seating. Otherwise had to lay in bed to relax. Even a small couch for 2 people would have been a big help. Other then that cabin was fine. Like the Medallion that we wear during the entire cruise. Makes room access, shopping a breeze. Estuary tour we took is not for the faint of heart. So unless you have balance and or leg issues it is a fun excursion but a lot of climbing in and out of boat with not so secure feeling docks but nobody tripped. A few people were on this excursion that should not have been allowed . They were just too unsteady and not safe.
The embarkation process out of San Francisco was very quick and easy. The Reserve Collection Mini-Suite was roomy with a large balcony. My wife was surprised that the cabin had a tub. The room steward introduced himself promptly and took care of our needs throughout the cruise. The Reserve Collection Dining room was very good, no wait and quick service. The buffet was the normal typical buffet, frequently crowded during peak times. The shows were good entertainment, especially the "Voice of the Ocean" game show. The performances and events on the Piaza (deck 5) were good but the area is too small for popular events so seating is very limited, get there early to get a seat. The shows in the Princess Theaters also fill up quickly so get to those early. This was an 11 day cruise from SF to Mexico. The variety of excursions wasn't as much as previous trips and filled up early so the pre-registration is important (you can cancel up to one day before the port visit). Disembarkation in SF was pretty smooth, even letting the porters take your bags the night before, the baggage claim area wasn't too crowded. The passenger drop off & pick was a mess due to passengers standing at the curb and in the lanes so vehicles couldn't pull to the curb, thus blocking lanes.

The Princess Luxury Bed is available across the fleet except for Regal Princess, where most staterooms have been updated. On Regal Princess all Full Suites and Club Class staterooms have been updated and we are continuing to convert the few remaining beds.
