This cruise on the Enchanted Princess exceeded most of our expectations! We booked our own transport from Rome after staying a few days prior to embarkation. Lets start with that, there are many options to get to Civitavecchia from Rome at several price ranges. This time we opted for a shuttle van that picked up two other couples at different hotels. We were picked up first then the other two stops and we arrived at the port an hour and 40 minutes after they picked us up. 100 Euros per couple and that included 1 large bag per person plus your carry on. One person had two quite large bags and had to pay 3 euros extra. Remember, no need to overpack..... The shuttle van delivered us right up to the edge of the pier. NICE! We had all our prep done via the princess app (quite easy to do in advance) gave our bags to the gents at the pier and they got them to the right spot so they would be delivered to our cabin. We breezed right through the two checkpoinsts where our carry on bags were scanned, they verified who we are and we proceeded to the Green lane and were on board within 22 minutes of arriving at the pier at 1220 local time. A truly smooth operation. We have cruised 9 times prior to this cruise and I have to say it really helps to simply have realistic expectations about everything. Be positive, smile, and understand that the crew are humans and things don't always work out perfectly. They work really hard at making your cruise a great vacation. We found the food to be quite good, in some cases not great but we did have many truly excellent meals. We have traveled all over the world and have lived in several countries in Europe as well as many spots in the US. So we have a lot of experience and know up front it won't all be wornderful. We dined at the crown Grille, (Excellent) Sabatinis Italian( also great) we celebrated my wifes birthday there and they made it extra special. We dined at Catch by Rudi and just had a really nice meal! Had breakfast in the Amalfi dining room a couple of times, that was very good. The service was pretty much perfect! Had room service on early morning so we could have a bite before our excursion left. Just fill out the card in your room and they bring just when you requested. Dinner in the Amalfi dining room several times and the Buffet a couple of nights. As to be expected, the buffet crowd in the morning on sea days is large. Go early or after 10:00 AM. Our Deluxe Balcony was on Riverra just aft of mid ship. Good spot! We truly had a quiet room with a Fabulour cabin Steward. We enjoyed several good excursions, (Be aware that the level of exertion is not always accurate) Had that discussion with the Excursions desk. when you embark, a set of tickets for your excursions will be deliverd to your cabin and they have the time and place (often a dining room) to check in for your excursion. Might want to go a bit early as they have to check you off the list and give you a group number and a sticker. The entertainment was very enjoyable, we are 70 but do like to rock out! The princess theater gets full early, so don't wait until 10 - 15 minutes before show time. There are normally two shows per night, 7;30 and 9:30 Comedy shows in the smaller venues etc. A lot to keep you occupied. Also, the spa has some real nice discounts on port day. If you have previously visited that port, perhaps pamper yourself... Disembarkation day was smooth and simple If you have a transfer to the airpot (as we did) guest services will give you a letter of instruction along with luggage tags the designate you disembark group. We have done the carry off your own luggage on a couple of cruises. We don't do that any more. They pur you luggage in groups accoding to the color of bag tags. Very easy to find yours. If you are planning your own transport to you destination, take you bags. If you have a transfer, just find your bus or van (there is a color coded sign in the windshield) give your bags to the driver and get on the bus. In Rome they deliver you right to the airport, we were going on to Napoli for a visit, just go down a level to baggage clain and our the door, the train station is right across the street. All trains go to the main Termini station in central Rome.You can go anywhere in Italy from there. You can get better ticket prices on line prior to arriving as opposed to watining until you get to the station. Overrall, we had a great cruise on Enchanted Princess. No need to stress.
