The cabin was very well appointed. Just about anything that you need. The butler was fantastic as was all the crew. The shore excursions were disappointing as 4 of the 5 were either canceled or changed to basically a bus ride. Two were because of rough seas but no reason given for the other two. Food was good but nothing special. Not any better than other cruise lines. Communication was lacking or conflicting. We had one issue of the toilet not working. Fixed within an hour. Overall a nice cruise but we expected a bit better based on the cost. We were in a Horizon Suite which was very spacious and comfortable. The balcony collected a lot of water making it unusable at times. The crew were exceptional in the restaurants and bars. Entertainment staff walked around and introduced themselves in some of the public areas. Gift shop was not well stocked.
Pre cruise in Lisbon was amazing. Hotel Lapa was beautiful, staff was very friendly and food was good. Once on board the Mariner, the ship itself and the room We had is in need of a freshening. Old couches in public areas, a mattress in our room that was somewhat uncomfortable, a bar refrigerator unit where the molding around the door was broken off from use. If you can get past the remodeling that’s necessary, most everything else on board was great.Other than that, the staff , food and excursions are great. One note of caution I saw several people fall on slick cobblestones in Tangiers on an excursion to Hercules Cave. On departure, Regent wanted to put us on three flights to get back home. I paid an up charge to go on two flights and stay an extra day in Barcelona. All in all we decided to book another cruise while on board to the Caribbean in 2025.
The ship and staff were remarkable. They were equal to Viking Ocean and Ama river cruises I have enjoyed. The only issue was the included excursions did not have microphones and ear pieces. We could not hear the tour guides and were told my Regent staff that it was up to the Tour Co. On Viking and Ama the ship provides this service with devises provided and charged in our rooms. Many guests also had the same complaint. I looked forward to learning from the guides and found this a big disappointment and would have second thoughts of scheduling if Viking or Ama had the same route since they provide the listening devices everything else being equal. The WiFi was great as the food and wonderful balcony with our suite. The Entertainment was nice as well. The walk-in closet was a wonderful surprise. Love the cruise other than the lack of listening devices.
