LoginIntroducing a new Oasis Class ship that’s bold beyond imagination.
Utopia of the Seas℠ arrives July 2024. Details to come as visions become reality.
This Christmas, we sailed aboard Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas, following last year’s holiday cruise on the Mariner of the Seas. Here’s a recap of our experience: Ship Overview • Size & Capacity: The ship is 18 levels and hosted over 8,000 people during our cruise. • Key Features: • Dining Options: • 13 Specialty Restaurants (additional fees required). • 10 Complimentary Restaurants included in the cruise. • Entertainment & Activities: • Splashaway Bay Waterpark. • Adventure Ocean Arcade. • FloRider surf simulator. • Casino. • Laser Tag. • Mini Golf and Rock Climbing Walls. • Outdoor Movies under the stars. • 8 Hot Tubs & Whirlpools. • Adult-Only Solarium Area for relaxation. • Unique Feature: The Royal Railway Utopia Station, a train-themed dinner experience aboard the ship. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try this, but it looked amazing! Dining • Overall Rating: ⭐️ 7/10 Great variety of options, but some specialty restaurants required additional fees, and the complimentary options were good, though not exceptional. Entertainment • Main Show: A spectacular experience. ⭐️ 10/10 • Water Show: Engaging and creative. ⭐️ 9/10 • Comedy Show: Fell short of expectations. ⭐️ 5/10 Holiday Spirit • Comparison to Last Christmas (Mariner of the Seas): • Last year’s Mariner cruise felt more festive, with highlights like Christmas stories, snow, and incredible holiday details. • This year, the ship’s larger size may have impacted the holiday feel, though Santa Claus’s 8:15 AM Christmas morning arrival and gifts for all children 17 and under were wonderful touches. Embarkation & Debarkation • Smooth and efficient processes. ⭐️ 9/10 Destinations • Both stops were places we had visited before, so they didn’t stand out this time around. Final Thoughts We chose this cruise to experience the Utopia of the Seas, which launched in July 2024, and it delivered an incredible mix of activities and amenities. From the waterpark to the adult-only solarium, the ship offered something for everyone. However, there was far too much to experience in just five days, making it impossible to see everything. The Royal Railway Utopia Station train dinner remains on our list to try in the future. Overall, the ship’s features and scale made for a memorable trip, though it lacked some of the holiday magic we experienced last year. Overall Rating: ⭐️ 9/10 Khloë’s idea for another Christmas cruise turned out to be an excellent choice, and we’re already looking forward to what’s next!
The Utopia is the nicest ship they have at the present time. It has the best and softest beds of all Rcl ships and being new it was kept clean and beautiful at all times. The buffet as usual was great other then the deserts which are all whip cream base n cake that has no taste and anything resembling custard surely has no milk and is therefore not creamy including the ice cream. The pizza as usual was great and alway fresh which is more than I can say for the promenade sandwiches. Staff is excellent The bad is ,the dining room dinner food which had minimal choice with repeated food, grille chicken n tough steak nightly and continued with terrible deserts. I found only the French onion soup to be hot and good. The meat at the cafe could double as shoe lace and not good only the salad was edible. If you don’t book appointments in the first night forget getting reservations for Aqua or ice skating show. The comedy adult shoe was good though. We had to skip CocoCay due to weather n they refused to return my port fee which is So very wrong I didn’t not need compensation but I expected my fee in the port returned how can you keep something that doesn’t belong to you. In addition my credit card hold which they collected the full statement charges is still on hold 10 day later n they will do nothing about releasing it and I called them. Reply was, so sad too bad you have to wait, wait for what you collected your money. The casino was really good not to me but others I saw many a hand pay almost every night. The machines are new and kept clean. The drinks are expensive and not that good and not free to high playing players. I think Rcl needs to improve the after cruise customer relationship as it is awful if they only hired people like the ship staff they may keep their diamond members. In all because of the ship I would give it an 8 but definitely could improve.
Good Friend. To us the Utopia is a good friend, not your best friend (Allure), but a good friend. This was our third trip on the Utopia and it did not disappoint. We had a junior suite this time which was very roomy and had a bath tub, walk-in closet, and large balcony. As usual, the Windjammer was the star of the trip with great variety and quality. We ate at the Coastal Kitchen two nights which, to be honest, was Meh. The steakhouse on the Carnival Glory is better. The service was very good, but the food was inferior to the Windjammer except for the ratatouille that was some of the best I’ve ever had. I love shrimp cocktail and the Windjammer shrimp were large and crispy whereas the Coastal Kitchen’s were small and mealy. Whomever is running the Windjammer on the Utopia gets 5++ stars in our book. We don’t cruise for the food, however. We are casino rats and spend most of our time there. The carpet is still disturbing and the slot machines are almost all high volatility. Still, our favorite slot machine title is only high limit and they added even more of them at even higher limits. Players were getting wrecked on them the entire cruise, thousands and thousands of dollars wrecked. Fortune shone brightly upon us this cruise through perseverance and cunning in a very, very difficult casino. It still feels like a Vegas strip casino looking to fleece every customer as quickly as possible. RCL will likely learn, as the Vegas strip casinos are learning now, that their current strategy will not work long term and tends to drive customers to other options. The weather was pretty rough with 15+ foot seas which the Utopia handled well although Coco Cay was canceled due to waves breaking over the pier. We rarely get off there anyway as we remember the old Coco Cay before RCL jammed it full of water parks and opportunities to up-charge for literally everything. The Utopia is going to be with us for a while so we will get to know this new friend a little better and maybe, just maybe, they will come around and become a great friend.
I’m giving this experience 5 stars. Not based on it being a super high end experience, but rather because of how RCCL excelled in what they do. After 26 cruises with Princess, we took our first cruise with RCCL. Long story short….we loved it. Long-ish story: We bought The Key package. It was worth it! Check-in, boarding, and disembarkation were all non-events. Amazingly smooth. We had an ocean view balcony cabin on the 9th floor near the bow. Great location for us. Good sized balcony, more than ample storage, and the bathroom shower had a glass door (hear that, Princess?), and…a rain shower and hand held shower! We spent a great deal of time in the Solarium. It was really great. Very large bar with good service, two hot tubs, abundant sun beds, and heated pool (again, hear that, Princess) We ate in the MDR every night. We did My Time dining and made reservations for each night. The food was quite good, better than on Princess, in my opinion. Service was excellent. The Windjammer was good, but not great. We had breakfast there each morning. Nothing wowed us, except for the friendly crew members offering coffee refills, etc. With no exceptions, the crew seemed happy to be there. They were highly engaged. We never felt overcrowded. The Thanksgiving crowd was remarkably calm and well behaved. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked back to back Utopia cruises for next year. Princess, you’re in trouble!
