Clean modern ship with very friendly helpful crew. The most children I have seen on seven cruises. This was refreshing in seeing families together on vacation but the entertainment seemed primarily oriented toward children and families. Comedian was good but RC really did not have staged shows of any note. Food in Windjammer buffet was consistently excellent with no skimping on such things as roast beef or reducing variety of dishes: Italian, Spanish and Indian dishes in addition to American. Staff at buffet friendly and extremely willing to help. Deserts were the only issue at all. Small dish puddings and musses were not nearly as good as NCL or Virgin. Wyatt from Indonesia singing to us on his dinosaur very fun! Phillip working the buffet friendly and attentive. Balcony Stateroom always clean from Philip the steward. He made us three towel animals. The only thing missing was major entertainment shows but with frequent Mexican stops this was not a huge issue.
First cruise for my wife and I and we loved it. Early embarkation at 11am was a breeze, RC seemed very organized. Muster was simple and we were in our balcony cabin by 1pm. I had booked a guaranteed balcony, not know what that really meant, and so we were a little stressed beforehand while waiting to see our room assignment. a nice balcony, clean room, everything worked. Our room attendant, Gede, was top notch. The ship was beautiful and well maintained. Very nice restrooms. Didn't use much of the activities. Played a little in the casino and did the bingo thing. Disappointed that they charged 2.50 for popcorn when we are paying $79 for bingo. Cmon guys. Upper deck was extremely loud. So loud we couldn't even stay there. When the music wasn't blasting, there was somebody on a mic yelling. Had to retreat to the Solarium for any peace and quiet. Food was ok. Main dining room was great for breakfast and dinner. Buffet was so so but there's so much to choose from you should be able to find something you like. Room service menu was also so so. In retrospect, I wish we had never ordered anything from room service besides the continental breakfast. Didnt pay for any specialty dining. We don't drink alcohol but we had the refreshment package which included pretty much everything non-alcoholic but don't feel we got our moneys worth. Next time will pay individually for premium coffee and virgin daquiri and save a lot. Maybe buy the bottle water package. Too many unattended kids running loose, hitting all the buttons on the elevators, etc. Catalina port day was cancelled due to bad winds and seas. Ensenada is a dump. Great day to stay on ship. Disembarking was a breeze, we did self-assist and were off the ship in no time. It was an awesome experience. Going on the Ovation of the Seas in August 2025.
We don't cruise much but this was a family thing. The ship is clean and well maintained, the staff is so good. I'm not into cruising because you spend so much time traveling on water instead of doing stuff on land. I like active things so ships are a bit restrictive. I can say the food was 1/2 average, and 1/2 good if you chose carefully. The specialty restaurants are good. Buying the meal package seems to keep you from making reservations before boarding so that is messed up. The water rides were top notch. The flowrider and tube rides are good even for land based parks. I was impressed, lines not too long either. The cruise provided excursion we did was a joke. We kayaked at Mazatlan and 5 of the 12 or so kayaks filled with water and people had to swim to a nearby boat. They only refunded 1/2 the cost!! Unbelievable. The guide was wonderful though, we ate lunch with him after. Its like once RC has your money you are theirs to play with. We did non-cruise excursions that were great, go that route. The other funny thing was when boarding, we had so much banned things in luggage and all they asked about was a tiny knife on my key-chain, and let that through! Let's just say we didn't need the adult drink package! Oh, and most of us had a cold the day after leaving the ship. Good luck!
