Ship Reviews

This was our fourth Silversea cruise and 30th cruise overall. We sailed on 14 different lines, including Seabourn, Crystal, Oceania, Azamara and more. Overall, it was a great cruise. We felt that the service was outstanding and actually improved compared to our previous SS sailings. This applied especially to breakfast and lunch buffet at La Terazza, but also in other venues. Embarkation: very smooth and quick. We arrived at the terminal at 11:20 and within 15 minutes were on the ship. Cabins were ready around 2:30pm. Good job so far! Food: The food was between good and very good, excellent on very few occasions. It was simply not memorable enough. The service was excellent across all venues. Atlantide was our least favorite restaurant. We dined there twice, both times the main dish arrived not hot enough and was not great. Breakfast buffet was good, with nice selection and quality products. You could order eggs, pancakes etc. and they arrived very promptly. La Terazza was our favorite venue for dinner. The Grill was good overall, Surf and turf was excellent, the lamb chops so so. Dinner was between very good and excellent across most venues except Atlantide. Silver Note is a very nice small and intimate venue with live music. Make sure to make reservations in advance. We also enjoyed the regional food in SALT. We didn't dine at La Dame as we felt it doesn't justify the extra cost. It costs $60 per person to get food and service that has to be a norm on a 6 star ship. Arts Cafe is a nice concept. They basically have snacks and sweets the whole day, something that I was missing on Oceania. Late afternoon is teatime; expect scones, pastries and finger sandwiches. Silversea doesn't have an official afternoon tea, but Arts Cafe is a nice replacement. The unlimited caviar was a real treat for me. Overall food at dinners: 8.5 out of 10. Food at buffet: 8.0 out of 10. Shore Excursions: the excursions were included in our booking, and overall they were very good. Some excursions are extra charge, especially if you want longer excursions or something more focused rather than a general bus tour with few stops. Unlike many other lines, they don't fill up the buses, and the average group size was around 20-25 people. In fact, some walking tours had only 12-15 people. All tour guides used listening devices (unlike Oceania), and the guides were very good on most tours. The only exception was Antibes tour. Overall: 9.0 out of 10. Entertainment and activities: very poor, probably among the worst we had on all our cruises. This was probably the biggest disappointment. Evening entertainment included a show in the theatre at 9:15pm and some live music around the ship in the various lounges. The inhouse singers and dancers were mediocre at best. The cabaret show from Marcelle was an insult. Daily activities and enrichment almost non existent. Only one guest lecturer dedicated to port talks (he was excellent). They had a huge chocolate extravaganza on our previous cruises, this time only 2 small tables at the entrance to the Venetian lounge. No famous Grand brunch. Overall Entertainment and activities: 3 out of 10. Cabin and the Butler Service: every room has butler service. Ours (Ayan) did his job very well. The cabin was outstanding, and the cabin service was excellent. Every cabin has a large bathroom with tub and shower, as well as walking closet, and curtain that separates the bed from the sitting area. Shower could be slightly larger, considering how large the cabin is. Definitely the best cabin we had on any cruise ship. Overall: 10 out of 10. Internet: They have StarLink, but with the basic package that is included with the fare, they limit the speed to about 0.5-0.7M, which is pretty pathetic for an ultra luxury line in 2026. You can do the basic things like email, uploading photos, loading web pages etc, but they block high bandwidth sites and also block streaming like YouTube. To get good internet you need to upgrade, which is $29 a day (a bit less if you buy it for the whole cruise). Feels like a revenue grab and completely inappropriate for a line like Silversea. Overall: 3 out of 10. Staff: I have only good things to say about the staff. They were extremely friendly and tried very hard. No request was too big. I don’t like SS dress code, but I do follow it. They did relax the dress code a bit, so I didn't have to bring a jacket (we dined in the Grill on the formal night). SS listened to their passengers, and vast majority want a relaxed dress code. Which doesn’t mean jeans, t shirts or shorts. It means a dressy shirt and slacks. Silversea markets itself as an All inclusive line, but this is not entirely correct. 2 out of 8 restaurants have a surcharge, to get decent internet you have to pay extra, and many wines are extra as well. Excursions were included in our booking, but not all of them, about 50% are extra charge. This cruise was deeply discounted, I'm not sure if I would pay regular SS prices at this point. Value for money for this cruise: 9 out of 10. Overall, we had a fantastic trip. Excellent itinerary, great weather. I would rate our overall experience 8.5 out of 10. I still consider Silversea a step up compared to Oceania, and if we find a good itinerary at reasonable price, we will definitely be back. Service remains the highlight of Silversea experience, but they really need to improve the entertainment, the food and the internet.

This was our first cruise on Silversea, Barcelona to Rome, but the 27th overall on 9 different lines. It was excellent and we would not hesitate to go back on Silversea. Service was polished and food was almost always wonderful. On rare occasions it might not be as hot as it should be. Cruise Director Tim was everywhere, approachable and personable. There was one enrichment speaker discussing the ports and their history who was very good. Two things: there could have been more speakers. And why schedule a talk for 6:00pm? That's happy hour and getting ready for dinner. Talking of which, we were waitlisted for Silver Note but never did make it. We stayed with Atlantide except for one night in SALT. There were four singers and two dancers, all very entertaining but they had to work every night except for two when we had a comedy magician. The beer list included Stella, Beck's, Peroni and Heineken, all very similar No pale ale or IPA. Could Silversea manage even one? It was January in the Med so the Captain was dodging the worst weather. Even so, we had some rockin' and rollin' at night with occasional waves slapping the hull. I assume if we had stayed with the original itinerary it would have been much worse so no complaints. Valencia was cancelled and we went to Mallorca. We were happy about that. Tunis was cancelled which was a disappointment. So we had two days in Palermo rather than one. Included excursions all had excellent guides. Free time in Palermo found us at a sidewalk cafe when there was a sudden hail storm. That was a surprise, never expected hail. The ship had recently completed 45 days of drydock so she is in excellent shape. I always figured the shipyard does the work but we learned that some crew were on board for the 45 days working on the refurbishment. Talking of which, we enjoyed our interaction with the crew. They all do a terrific job and we did appreciate that. We had many interesting conversations with fellow passengers. It was hard to find anybody under 60 but it's Silversea in January in the Med. What did you expect? In short, one of our best cruises.

How can anyone expect to see the Greek Isles in seven days? Impossible, in my view. And even at 14 days with back-to-back voyages, we still felt like we only scratched the surface. Yet Silversea has done a great job putting these two voyages together so that no ports were visited twice, and you still had exceptional port tours every day. Unfortunately, the busy port tour schedule did not allow us to get to know the charming and beautiful Muse as well as we would have wished - many treks were daylong and we disembarked early and returned late. Still, we find it difficult to find much of anything to criticize about this idyllic voyage - the food, the wine, and above all the stellar service make it plain that any competitor will have a hard time besting Silversea in this class. Our Silver Suite was a dream - we were so disappointed to learn that this fall's drydock of the Muse will include disappearing 24 of those fabulous suites in favor of adding smaller ones - obviously so corporate can book more passengers! We also fell in love with Indochine and were disappointed to learn it is being phased out for a SALT lab. We hope the new Muse that emerges from dry dock next year has all the charm and beauty of the Muse we knew!
