Star Breeze

Star Breeze

Star Breeze is large enough to pamper and entertain you, yet small enough to tuck into delightful tiny harbours and hidden coves that others can’t reach.

This all-suite yacht completed renovation as part of the $250 Million Star Plus Initiative to provide more of what our guests love. New public areas, including two new dining venues, a new spa, infinity pool, and fitness area. The yacht also boasts all new bathrooms in every suite and a new category of Star suites, featuring a new layout. With ocean views and at least 277 square feet of comfort, Star Breeze is the perfect yacht to watch glaciers and fjords drift by from the serenity of your suite.

Carrying only 312 guests, Star Breeze still tucks into small ports like Sanary-sur-Mer and Wrangell or narrow waterways like the Corinth Canal and Keil Canal.

Ship Reviews

We are not experienced cruisers. We had done 1 Royal Caribbean Cruise with our family and this was our first cruise as a couple. From booking to disembarking we had a wonderful experience. We booked booked the room with the picture window and were glad we didn't take the balcony room. The balcony are Juliet balconies and we were told this in advance when booking. We did not think the premium price made it worthwhile for us. Our room was spacious, spotless, and very comfortable. The bathroom was excellent including the amenities. The crew was outstanding. Absolutely everyone was cheerful, friendly, and helpful. We regularly saw the captain and he chatted with guests. We thought the open bridge policy was great. We didn't expect much from the entertainment being this was a small ship. We were pleasantly surprised at how much was offered and the quality. By no means the level of the big ships, the music and activities were personal, interesting and fun. We participated in lectures, talks, music and a couple of games. My disappointment was that there were often 2 things happening at once that I was interested in so I had to choose. This is a good thing! Food- we did not have a single disappointment when it came to the food. On two occasions servers suggested that our choice of the evening (1 a main and 1 a dessert) was not 'the best' and while we could have ordered it, took heed and ordered an alternative. We loved the different restaurants and did try them all. The Yacht Club was a pleasant surprise with a lovely light food selection and coffee all day. The bars were excellent and it was incredible that the bar staff called you by name and often remembered your favourite drinks. The drinks were very good. Excursions. We learned to book excursions early as they fill up. You can cancel up to 24 hours ahead so not a risk. We booked excursions at every port but were wait-listed for 2. On arrival we had been cleared for one of the tours and we were able to book an alternative for that day. We were also able to switch tours as we realized two were quite similar. It literally took less than 5 minutes and our account was credited and debited seamlessly. We can't say enough about how excellent the excursions were. They far exceeded expectations, were often very small groups, never rushed or crowded, and timing allowed for 2 a day which we did on occasion. The part of the ship we enjoyed the most was the marina. The back of the ship opened up while at anchor and there were opportunities to swim, kayak, and paddle board. The floating loungers were a wonderful way to take in the sun and sea. Note that there was no alcohol down at the marina which made sense. The hot tubs are very small but surprisingly available. We had the one on the front of the ship to ourselves one day. Was like being on a private yacht. This is not a party boat but people have a really good time. There may have been a couple of 30 year Olds (there was 1 wedding party) but most guests are well-travelled, active, and over age 50. Our experience was a wonderful way to celebrate our honeymoon.

It was our first cruise on Windstar but 22nd cruise overall. We thought that the staff on this cruise were the best ever. They were kind, cheerful, and very efficient. You could tell that they had very good training, but also good support from management. We absolutely loved our cabin steward, Lutfi. So kind when I was down with motion sickness. Restaurant staff were great- always remembered drinks and our names. Shelley and Alla were so nice to us in the Yacht Club for cappuccinos every morning. Firman, Ahdi, Achmat, Rina, Rini, and everyone else so helpful, and cheerful. The lovely cappuccino barista in the Verandah was so nice, and made a great coffee. In addition to the wonderful staff, we loved our suite. It was big enough that we could relax and read a book, or have a meal comfortably. Room service was very good- food was hot, prompt, and the menu was quite extensive.. in the evenings you can even order from the Amphora Dining room menu! I loved that you could order warm popcorn. No charge for room service! Food was good to very good. Lunch and breakfast were buffet, with a small menu to order from. We over the smash burger, available to order from the buffet, room service or the Star grill. We loved it when the marina was open to swim off the boat. It was closed to the open ocean a few times because of very strong current, and once because we had sharks circling in Huahine! The only thing I didn’t love were the two sea days. I knew I wouldn’t because of my motion sickness, so came prepared to spend the days in the cabin with medication. The staff all asked after me, and sent crackers, and sliced green apples to the room. Lutfi kept checking in with ginger ale for me. The fact that it was a smaller ship did worsen the amount of movement with the waves compared to the larger cruise ships. We loved the smaller boat otherwise. There was never more than a few minute wait at the dining room. Every place was a quick walk to and from. The other great thing was the efficiency of embarkation, disembarkation, and tendering on and off of the ship. We never waited more than about 15 minutes for anything. Overall, probably our best cruise ever. A nice balance of just informal enough, yet still really nice in comparison with Seabourn, Oceania, etc. We would cruise with Windstar again anytime!

My husband and two friends just returned from the Star Breeze 7-day Papeete round trip. Overall, a very good cruise, but did not meet the same standard as the Wind Surf. Here are my personal observations. Pre-cruise Experience at the Intercontinental The Intercontinental has a beautiful pool area and view of Moorea. Pool staff is awesome. Why you have to use pool cards and sign out towels at a high-end resort, however, is beyond me. It is close to the airport, but a $25US taxi ride to town where I highly recommend the restaurant Le Retro with excellent French inspired cuisine in a casual atmosphere. The Intercontinental food is just so-so and the menu uninspiring. The room at the Intercontinental is clean and a good size. The shower is frustratingly difficult to operate when sleep deprived. Bring shampoo, both times, coming and going, the shampoo pump would not work in two separate rooms. My big disappointment was with the main desk staff. I experienced the run around trying to exchange some $ to CFP. Went to front desk and they would not do it, said I could catch shuttle to town, went to concierge who called front desk and told them to change my money. Went back to front desk and changed $200. A man walked up and they changed his money without question. It was humiliating and frustrating and I am not understanding what happened as they advertised money exchange. The luggage was handled well by the staff for both the bus ride to the pier and to the airport upon return. Embarkation The process is the longest I have experienced on a small ship. I cruise many different lines including Azamara, Seabourn, Oceania, Viking, and Windstar. Everyone is let off at once and is asked to sit in a tent while they process a few at a time. I believe they could have done the check in at the Intercontinental as everyone was sitting in the lobby there for 1 ½ hours of completely wasted vacation time after checkout. It was nice that they had the cultural immersion team playing island music in the tent. A table with cookies and something to drink was also provided. Note that restaurant reservations could be made in the tent at the table positioned to the left side opposite check in. Once inside, rooms were ready, luggage available as well as lunch. Dining The staff really shines on the dining teams. I met so many helpful members of this team including the outstanding Derek. Thoroughly enjoyed the Maître ‘de, Huber. His sense of humor and customer service is a “best at sea”. The sommeliers were also very good and pleasant to work with. As usual, we enjoyed Candles. The lamb was outstanding and my husband says the filet was one of the best of sea as well. Loved the octopus at Cuadro 44. I am not a huge fan of Amphora food as it fulfills the need, the service is excellent, but food never leaves a real impression. Breakfast gets repetitive, but it is breakfast. We also had several lunches at the Grill which is great with the impressive views of the different islands and some nice grilled or smoked meats and salads. Excursions What I learned is that French Polynesia is best enjoyed from the water, so plan accordingly. The best snorkeling, however, can be difficult due to currents and distances from the boat compared to the Caribbean. The Dolphin excursion on Moorea was excellent with the most beautiful views and great information of the trip. Be prepared for rain on Raiatea. Apparently, it is always raining there. We did an interesting tour that included a stop at a Pearl producer. Buy your pearls there as they were the cheapest prices I encountered. On Bora Bora you must snorkel. We were able to see a manta ray, other rays, turtles, shark, and hundreds and hundreds of beautiful fish. Huahine is absolutely beautiful eye candy. Stay on deck for the sail away as the sunset is other worldly. I have to comment that the tender service was extremely timely for such a small audience of cruisers. I also feel the excursion team was extremely accommodating in so many ways. They were able to provide detailed information. Room The room was a nice size containing everything that I required. Double sinks were nice in our French balcony cabin. Our room attendant, Serathi (sp) provided water and ice and absolutely did a fabulous job. There is a mini bar where items are included if you have a drink package. Shower is awesome. You can hang your wet gear in the bathtub/shower combo. Laundry is done well and fairly inexpensively. Entertainment The Cultural Immersion Polynesian Team worked harder than anyone in an entertainment group I have ever witnessed. Kudos to them for their beautiful music, happy disposition, and representation of their islands. They often played at the Grill during lunch and on the pool deck. The island BBQ – second night on Bora Bora had great food, even with lobster tails. The hula and fire dancers were outstanding and fun to watch. Walk around the island a little. We were treated to the super moon next to the mountain in Bora Bora. What an experience. Now for the disappointment. The rest of the entertainment was somewhat disappointing. I like to play trivia and I only saw it on the schedule once. In addition, the band was just not in tune with their audience. Dancing is the reason I cruise. An example, the dance floor filled when they played Elton John, then they returned to playing unknown songs I could not recognize as they were not the best played. If everyone is dancing to a certain type of music, don’t play unrecognizable songs that no one knows. This is just knowing your audience 101. The band and trivia on the Surf this past June outshined the entertainment on the Breeze. Disembarkation Disembarking was fast and the return to the room at the Intercontinental went well. The airport is very hot so dress appropriately. They will go through your hand luggage by hand at the airport. If you buy pearls, the required duty free stamp and mailbox is on the left as you exit security and very easy to use. All in all, you realize FP is one of the last isolated places on earth and is a beautiful experience. You do not need many francs as most everyone takes credit cards, US$, or Euros.

This was our 3rd Windstar cruise, and the first on a Star class yacht. To be honest, we prefer the smaller boats, but this was still far superior to a cruise ship. The staff was friendly, the excursions were well done, the room was very comfortable, and the food was excellent. If you like to snorkel, this is your trip. We saw rays and black tip (harmless) sharks up close along with all the other fish you expect. The water was shallow and calm. We could have, but didn't bother to scuba dive since we had so many great snorkel trips. We used Seafari and the guide and captain (Pai &Filou) were great. We added a few nights on Moorea for a "foodie tour" along with more time in the water, and thought the tour operator (Tahiti Food Tours) was great. Truly a local experience. We expected little tastes of the food, but got more food than we could eat. We took a half day circumnavigation tour of Tahiti with Tahiti Eden Tours and enjoyed the experience with our guide Vetea. Our plane landed at 5 AM and we couldn't check in until 3, so the tour was the perfect thing to do. As a plus, it cost less than the day rate at the hotel if we had checked in early. We are convinced we will return. Tahiti is what Hawaii pretends to be.

Entertainment

A day on board your Windstar ship is a day of choices, all of them good. Perhaps you’ll begin with a relaxing massage in World Spa by Windstar. Or maybe an invigorating workout in the Fitness Center. Even better, why not both? After a sumptuous lunch in Veranda, make a splash from the Watersports Platform off the ship’s stern. Everything you can think of for fun in the water is there — swimming, kayaking, sail-boarding, even water skiing. And it’s all complimentary, of course. Sun yourself on deck, take a dip in the whirlpool, then catch up on email ororder a cheese plate for your stateroom or suite. After dinner, dance to live music in the Lounge. This is your yacht, so of course you’re welcome on the Bridge, where the Captain and officers are delighted to share charts, routes, and vistas with you.

As you prepare for another amazing Windstar day, enjoy a nightcap anywhere you like — on deck, in the Lounge, or why not let us bring it to your suite or stateroom? Your day ends just as it began, blissfully.
