AmaDolce

Enjoy the sweet life aboard AmaDolce. Your experience starts in your elegantly appointed stateroom, where Entertainment-On-Demand and soothing bath and body products bring you the ultimate in comfort before your cozy bed envelops you in sweet dreams. The Main Lounge is tinged with reds and pinks that complement the distinctive red wines of Bordeaux, a region this ship currently calls home as it cruises along the Garonne and Dordogne rivers and Gironde Estuary. Warm caramel and honey-colored tones adorn the room while a French balcony—available in most staterooms—allows you to indulge in scenic views. Follow your nose to the Main Restaurant or clink glasses in the bar, where rich, chocolate-hued woods bring beauty to the backdrop of your every craving. The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant is the cherry on top of an already exquisite culinary experience on board that includes lunch and dinners paired with unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks. And should you wish to stay active, a Sun Deck walking track, fitness room and a fleet of onboard bicycles are ready and waiting to assist you on your wellness journey.

Ship Reviews

The cruise was wonderful . However , the cruise was designated as a "Bordeaux Wine Cruise." The wines that were featured by the wine expert were California wines. These wines were very good, however I expected Bordeaux wines to be featured on a Bordeaux wine cruise. If I were cruising in Napa or Sonoma, I would not expect Bordeaux wines to be featured. This is the third time we sailed on an AmaWaterways "wine cruise" where this same situation occurred. I am now hesitant to continue to book with Ama for a "wine cruise" from a certain wine area when we are not being featured the wines from that area by the wine expert who accompanies our trip. The cruise director was excellent with great attention to detail and the needs and requests of the guests. The staff could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. Would have preferred more regional food choices from the menu. Would also have preferred some more rotation of the every day wines for lunch and dinner.

First time on AMA after several Viking River Cruises. AMA feels posher and travelers more sophisticated. Included tour options were very good and offered variety from slow paced walkers to advanced cycling. Food was good to occasionally exceptional. Dining room service was disappointing. Included wines were very drinkable. I agree with prior reviews that the featured wine expert on board was all about promoting his product. Veranda cabin is tight with minimal storage space. If I go again, I'll pack lighter and more casual. Reasonable value for the cost. We somehow failed to find the "gratuities included" booking option and found the last minute appeal for tips, especially for the cruise manager (!) unseemly. Evening entertainment is minimal. Also did the pre-cruise to Bilbao and San Sebastian which was attended by 24 people while the passenger count on the cruise was 72. The pre-cruise was very well done, nice hotels, good tours, excellent transfers.

Our first river cruise was an enlightening experience. With two ocean cruises in our past, we were skeptical of the significant cost difference between a river and ocean cruise but soon realized you do get what you pay for. Far more intimate service, better food, and attentiveness on excursions. AmaWaterways is top notch and we couldn't say enough positive things about our cruise manager, Cesario. He was with our tour from the day we arrived to the day we departed the airport to come home. The ship's staff were all extremely courteous and we had zero problems making requests and getting immediate response. We opted for the land package on either end of the cruise which I highly recommend. Provides a little jet-lag recover on the front-end and extends the pleasure slightly on the back-end. We've already placed a deposit on our next Ama river cruise and would be hard pressed to go back to an ocean going cruise after this last experience. Excursions were expertly led by local guides and were all extremely related to both the theme of the cruise (wine) and the history of the region. Just do it!

My friend and I shared a room (two twin beds) for the week cruise and had a terrific time. We spent the first night in Bordeaux at the InterContinental Hotel and boarded the ship the next day. The Hotel is fabulous! Our quarters were small for two people, but we managed. We were on the top floor and with the "balcony" which was not really a balcony, just a nice window that could be opened. The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. We made lots of friends and enjoyed the daily excursions. The food and wine on the boat was ok. But we really enjoyed dining with our co-passengers and meeting new people each evening. We used thy gym, got a massage, enjoyed the sundeck, and borrowed some of the games. Everything was very clean and well kept. Everyone spoke English. It was nice to get to know the Captain. I would do another Amawaterways cruise.
