Celebrity Edge

Celebrity Edge

A ship designed to leave the future behind.

Celebrity Edge® marks a turning point in our approach to ship design. From the very first sketches to experiencing those designs in a virtual reality setting, every step was done in 3-D. From the incredible new Magic Carpet® to the private plunge pools in our new 2-story Edge Villas, we could design the most refined ship at sea. The unique outward facing design breaks from traditional ship design. Aboard, you’ll feel more connected with the sea and the places you’ll visit in a variety of spaces ranging from our Edge Staterooms with Infinite Verandas®, to our reimagined, terraced pool deck that offers even greater views of the destinations and shimmer of ocean.

Ship Reviews

There have been many changes over the years we have been cruising with Celebrity. In writing this review, I will try to not let nostalgia for the past “ be-the enemy” of appreciation of the present. While we might miss the dessert cart, Celebrity continues to provide an excellent cruise experience. My husband and I boarded the Edge after already spending a couple weeks in Australia. The boarding process was quick and seamless except for being handed a sheet outlining the changed itinerary. This caused confusion and some distress for those of us who had booked independent excursions. It later became clear that the delay in leaving Sydney and cancellation of an overnight and day in Cairns had been the right call due to weather conditions. Our itinerary already had mainly sea days ( for some reason Brisbane was not included on our sailing) but we enjoyed being docked inSydney with a view of the Opera house and bridge climbers. We had plenty of time to explore the ship and the Edge is stunning. It is also well laid out and for the most part uncrowded. There are several elevators which meant less waiting . We were also pleased with our stateroom, having opted for our first sunset veranda. The stateroom was larger than cabins on previous ships and well designed. We had plenty of room for everything we had packed for a-month in Australia. We were pleased that my request for chaises for the balcony had been granted since we had so many sea days. We enjoyed the diversity of passengers in terms of age and nationality. There was a wide age range with many young families. We were clearly in the older end of the continuum. We met people from all over the world which made for interesting conversations. The 4 main dining rooms concept was new to us and worked well. We never had to wait more than a couple minutes to be seated. We had Select dining (a change for the better) and rotated among the four and enjoyed the variety. However, we missed the familiarity of having the same serving team. We learned late in the cruise that you could order specialties from all the other restaurants at any of the four. The service and food were very good throughout and there were so many good choices that we felt no need to go to a specialty restaurant. Though it seemed that there were fewer upscale offerings, all meals were well prepared and presented. Many of our old favorites ( lobster tail, beef wellington, baked Alaska)were on the menu for the last chic night. (I do not lament the demise of formal nights.) The ocean view buffet was a pleasant surprise with a huge selection including Asian dishes and themed lunches. The Australia day lunch buffet was outstanding. The choices ranged from healthy to decadent. The buffet did get crowded at times but we could always find a table. We also enjoyed the spa cafe and grill. And, of course, our standby, cafe al Bacio. One disappointment was the cutbacks to room service dining. In the past we could order anything off the mdr menu delivered to-our stateroom. We did get the continental breakfast delivered before the excursions which was convenient. But no dinners on our balcony. As far as activities, a multitude were offered in which we did not participate but many seemed to enjoy. We did attend several shows which were well done with some talented headliners and excellent orchestra. The theater was the only place we had trouble finding seats. I was surprised that whole empty sections were being reserved for retreat guests. My go to activity has always been reading and swimming in the solarium. This was my biggest disappointment. While it is still an attractive, uncrowded and quiet space, there is no longer a thalassotherapy pool only a plunge pool and no longer access to a sauna except for spa guests. All of the ports were enjoyable though it was difficult to book independent excursions due to the ship’s schedule. We ended up doing a ship excursion to whitehaven beach which was expensive but a must do for me. We were able to reschecule our cairns excursion to kuranda by skyrail and did an independent excursion to low isles along with those on the ship’s excursion. In summary, celebrity continues to deliver very good food and service., an impeccable ship still providing cloth washcloths in public bathrooms and offering even better entertainment and more dining options.

The Edge is a really gorgeously designed and decorated ship and the staff were great. However diabetics were not well catered for with a lack of variety in the complimentary restaurants in the evenings. The only no added sugar dessert for 5 nights running was a scoop of vanilla ice cream and then 4 nights of chocolate ice cream. The food in the oceanview cafe had more variety but very crowded and noisy so preferred to eat in restaurants. Given the high cost of the cruise and extremely high cost of specialty restaurants, internet and excursions they could have done better! The entertainment was often geared to younger people with funky music and no story and did not have great production shows and musicals like on Princess. So could be improved!! The infinity balconies were great and provided more protection from the weather and privacy than normal balconies. So balcony much better than expected!

Great Cruise with few underage clients, made it more pleasurable for our group. Amenities and choice of restaurants, cafe's, baristas and drinking lounges was excellent. WIFI package purchased, but was not all that great in rooms. Drinks package Premium was also purchased - covered our drinking patterns with coffees, soft drinks, wines, cocktails and the nightly wee dram. Of note however; 1. the mini bar in the room was not included in the drinks package - DUMB DUMB DUMB and inconvenient. Forced us to go down to the bar, get a wider choice of drinks and bring them back to the room, and Also a couple of cocktails and top end drinks cost USD$21, requiring us to sign and pay the excess USD1. The admin costs would have cost more than the USD$1. STAFF: Victoria - my regular on-board Barista was superb - nothing was too hard. Ankush - excellent service Montong - looked after our room etc in an extremely professional and pleasant manner. Bantile - what can I say - excellent. BINGO - 4 games for USD$49, that lasted about 20minutes. Not value for money. GYM: Broken ONE & ONLY 'TECHNOGYM" dual adjustable pulley cable machine for 6 out of ten days. No spare cables on board. Easy Maintenance and repair and not a large stock item. Lacking client focus. RESTAURANTS Well catered for different cuisines, with main bistro holding large variety of food types. Roof top bar had its problems: After an hour, checked on our order. Lost in their process. Had to re-order. Drinks menu offered Cattier Champagne - wasn't available in their bar but offered Chandon. Requested that they stock their fridge accordingly and got to another bar for us to get the Cattier Champagne offered and available - took 25 mins. Ordered a Red Wine and it took same amount of time. Wasn't pleasant experience overall.

Average 2-3 hours for dining in a restaurant, took too long to serve dishes and even longer if you made separate orders and I had to miss some activities due to this. The Wilies island day is a bit disappointing as the ship was too far away from it and we couldn't see any corals. Lost a pair of shoes on the cruise, the guest relations didn't do anything as they suspected we didn't pack it in the first place. Went back home and couldn't find it anywhere. Everything (goods and services) on the ship is quite expensive, attended a few free seminars/consultations/services but they are all sales pitch. The activities in the club are quite fun, and the staff who did the movie trivia were talented. The performances in the theatre are good. 90% of the staff have excellent customer service. Great cultural diversity too, 90% staff are from non-English backgrounds. It's good to see how cultural diversity is celebrated on the cruise. Had a kitchen tour and the chef said all bread (excluding gluten free ones) are hand made, only flour is ordered, which is pretty impressive. The hairdressers are very professional and the keratin treatment does work for my frizzy hair. The downside is that I had to buy the recommended hair products to properly maintain the results whilst on the cruise as I was told the ones in the cabin are no good. The spa lady who did free skin analysis was quite pushy, after the analysis she pushed me to book in a facial. Afterwards every time I went to the spa she would somehow know I was there and came and asked me when I will book in a facial or buy the products. Bought Good feet insole after the seminar, yet to see the results. Got a free body analysis then the fitness centre staff recommended detox which is quite expensive. I politely said I will think about it and then he kept asking why I was hesitant...I felt awkward seeing him afterwards cos I was concerned he would keep pushing me...

We recently did a 10 day cruise on Celebrity Edge to the Great Barrier Reef and thoroughly enjoyed it. Food - The food, both in the dining room and also in the buffet was very good, with plenty of choices. The buffet (called the Oceanview Cafe) had a different theme for the food for each lunch and dinner. We ended up eating in the buffet most days for dinner because of the choice and also the timing for the shows. Shows in the theatre - There are 2 shows each night, one at 7pm and the next at 9pm. The shows were excellent. The guest artists were extremely good. One in particular, Will Martin, is a singer from New Zealand whom we have seen perform on other cruises and he was a crowd favourite. The ship's performers also put on very good shows with excellent singing and dancing. Cabin - We had a balcony cabin. This balcony is what they call an infinity balcony meaning that it is actually inside the cabin. It does have a concertina door that can be closed to separate it from the cabin but the only way to get fresh air is to lower the top half of the window. I was not a fan of this type of balcony and will try not to book one of these cabins again. There were also plenty of usb points where phones etc could be charged and power points that catered to different types of plugs. Crew - The crew were wonderful. Every crew member that we encountered would smile and say hello. Our cabin steward, Wayan, was exceptional in keeping our cabin clean. Another fantastic crew member was Bagus, who was a drink waiter in the buffet. He was amazing at remembering names. By the 2nd day he knew our names and by the 3rd day would ask me which of the 2 different drinks that I drank would I like to have for lunch. Lectures - There were a couple of different speakers on board. One in particular, Professor Richard De Grijs, gave very interesting talks about early Australian maritime explorers, such as James Cook, and another talk about our universe. Well worth while going to hear. Activities. - There seemed to be plenty of activities on board to keep everyone happy. Ports of call. - We had 4 ports, all of which were tender ports except the first which was at Brisbane. The tenders on Edge are state of the art. They have very comfortable seating, are air-conditioned and are much larger than tenders on other cruise ships. They made going ashore enjoyable because of the comfort and the stability in the water. All in all we had a very enjoyable time on board and I would definitely recommend doing a cruise on the Edge.

Dining

The best dining experience at sea—period.

World-class restaurants that open your world. We’ve designed Celebrity Edge® to change the way you experience the world, and our culinary philosophy follows the same line of thinking. We’ve turned our focus to the destinations we visit, bringing the flavours of the world to you—right on board. 29 unique food and beverage experiences crafted by a Michelin-starred chef speak to all of your senses in distinctly different ways.

You won’t find another dining experience like this at sea – or on land for that matter. Discover each of our restaurant and bar venues in more detail below, and satisfy your appetite for adventure by booking an exceptional cruise onboard Celebrity Edge.

Main Dining

Our goal to open your world through the culinary experiences we provide comes to life on Celebrity Edge. We rethought everything when we designed Edge—including our main dining experience. Choose from not one, but four complimentary, main restaurants, each with a distinctive design and ambience inspired by a specific region of the world.

Specialty Dining

We wanted to expand our global culinary expertise even further on Celebrity Edge. To open the world—and palates—of our savvy travellers even more, we designed exciting new specialty restaurants found nowhere else at sea. Take your onboard dining experience to new heights at our seven specialty dining venues and see how we’ve elevated specialty dining to a true art form.

Complimentary Dining

We’ve expanded the dining options in main dining with four new restaurants, and we’ve extended the complimentary dining selection across Celebrity Edge, as well. From the new Eden Café to the popular Oceanview Café and Mast Grill, there’s every opportunity to please your palate morning, noon, and night.

With all the inspiration we drew from creating our new main and specialty dining restaurants on Celebrity Edge®, we couldn’t help but to expand our complimentary dining offerings as well. Fleet favourites have been reimagined with a global focus, and we’ve created transformative venues that take you on a culinary journey throughout the day.

We’ve improved on a few favourites, plus created a new café that’s pure paradise at sea. Whenever the mood strikes you, we’re ready to serve up something delicious.

CELEBRITY SELECT DINING

Dine on your time

Celebrity Edge offers not one but four complimentary main restaurants—Normandie, Tuscan, Cosmopolitan, and Cyprus. Every restaurant features the same mouthwatering menu that changes nightly, plus each one offers its own ambience, along with a selection of exclusive, regionally inspired dishes and drinks.

We may have reinvented the main restaurant experience, but we haven’t changed the way you plan your dining in our main restaurants. You can choose Celebrity Select Early or Late seating for your dining times, which allows you to enjoy dinner at the same table with the same waiter every evening. You’ll be assigned one of the four main dining restaurants, while having the option to dine in the other three upon request.

On Celebrity Edge, we offer Celebrity Select Dining Anytime. Select your dining time in any of the four restaurants and enjoy a change of scenery. There’s nothing traditional about Celebrity. With Celebrity Select Dining the choice of how you plan your evening meals is up to you.
