We are normally RC cruisers, Diamond, so ughts include comparisons. We are Elite on Celebrity. Husband and wife ages 56 and 60. We have room, an infinite veranda. If you just want the bottom line, we loved the ship and our room as the best we have ever had but missed the food, -venue choices, availability and flavor- of RC. The ship feels perfect. There was plenty of seating everywhere except next to the coffee Cafe mid ship.Even the buffet was not jammed on the first day at lunch or at breakfast. The ship is the most beautiful we have ever been on, and we feel a sense of peace. The colors all over are blues, beige, greys. The art everywhere is interesting, unique, odd, I stop to actually look at it. There are very few kids, and the passengers have a kind, patient, friendly vibe- even at the elevators. There more older people with canes, chairs, just moving slowly ect. So leave your impatience at home. You cannot hurry people or push through if you are trying to catch an elevator or just impatient. There are all ages here, just a higher quantity of slower people than on RC. We have an infinite veranda, which I unexpectedly like. I can watch the water in peace and air-conditioning, regardless of rain, wind or temperature. There is not the lack of privacy and noise from balcony neighbors. There is more shade. I can enjoy an view and open window in the whole room, not just on a balcony space. If the window is open, the a/c goes off,which does heat up the room. It is not warmer than if you were on a normal balcony, but the other person in the room does not have the option of a/c. The breeze and sound of the ocean fills the room too ( which I love). You can have the window open at different levels, not just open or closed. Like wise with a sturdy dark shade. So you can achieve the total darkness of an inside room. You cannot have the shade down if the window is open. The only downside is that if the window is completely open, as it moves down, the view from bottom halfof the window is doubled glass and not nearly as nice to look through. The chairs on the "balcony" Are comfortable, as is the chair in the room and couch in the room. I need a good cushion and back support,and do not need to use the supplied couch pillows to achieve comfort in the chairs. There is plenty of storage space, although it is not as convient as I am used to. This is the best, most relaxing,most enjoyable room in have ever had on a cruise ship. The bed is near the door, which makes the the couch ( which could fit 3, rather than an RC couch that fits 2)near the window. That is nice.
I don't believe the ship was full, very few children so great week to travel.We used Park n Go instead of the Port Parking; Less cost, excellent service Embarkation/ Debarkation: easy with the Xpress pass on the app. Concierge Class Lunch was a nice feature while waiting for cabin #1 Dining. There was no early/late seating. Received a card the first night to show up at Tuscan 8:15pm. Was not explained that the ship is anytime dining. We worked it out to have the same waiter some of the nights but they don't get to know you at all. Our expectations were different so it was something we had to adjust to. The sommelier did get to know us. We loved Ben. #2 Cabins - the concierge class cabin was smaller than what we had on the APEX. Not many storage options, we had to keep organized. Sheets were not changed the entire time, which was probably okay but usually they are by day 3. No big deal, just something noticed. We did receive the sparkling wine the first day and canopies at 2:30. #3 Major shows at The Club, the venue is too small as it only holds 100 people. Missed some shows because we could not get in. Disappointing. #4 Captain Tasos - gorgeous, really funny but not as approachable as the APEX captain. We did have "rough seas/20ft rollers" we avoided so that was appreciated. Many guests thought the ship was moving a lot, for sailors "we're tipped to starboard and on plane doing 20 kts woo hoo!" #5 Loved the pizza making class in Eden, they provided a very nice lunch with our pizzas. Exceeded expectations. #6 SPA - I took advantage of the top to toe port special and had a manicure.
The Ascent is one of Celebrity's newest and largest ships. We normally prefer smaller ships around 2000 passengers and smaller but decided to try the Ascent for our Christmas cruise because it stopped at islands we had missed so far. The Ascent is a beautiful ship inside and out. It has some amazing bars and lounges that should suit any passenger. Some are quiet and secluded, others are busy and entertaining. The bartenders in the Martini Bar are lots of fun to watch and put on quite a show. The food quality was excellent and the 4 separate main dining venues with different themes were nice. Celebrity has the most interesting and convenient buffets of any line we have sailed on. The varieties and quality of cuisine should satisfy anyone. Celebrity caters more to a mature clientele than it's sister line Royal Caribbean, but there were many children on the cruise probably because of it being Christmas. There appeared to be sufficient activities to keep them occupied and happy. We did not experience any of the problems that a lot of kids on a ship can produce. We had some pretty rough weather one night but otherwise the trip was perfect. Now for the negative (sort of) We had a "Veranda" room. When I booked the cruise I stressed to our travel agent that we wanted an unobstructed view. Our room was adjacent to the side boarding elevator system that is a signature item on the Ascent. This system juts out from the side of the ship and obscured at least 1/3 of our view. This is not the fault of Celebrity because it stated the view was partial. It was the fault of our travel agent. The only other complaint is with the new "Veranda". Rather than a traditional outside balcony, The entire outside wall of the room consists of 2 large glass panels. The upper panel can be lowered to the same height as the lower panel which opens the entire room to outside. My complaint is that when there is salt spray on both panels and the top is lowered, they become nearly opaque and when you are seated, there is no view outside. In addition, the top of the panels are quite high. A person has to be standing in order to see over the top of them. I definitely prefer a normal balcony to this high tech arrangement. One final complaint. There were several dogs onboard. Although I am now seeing pet friendly cruises, I don't think animals should be allowed on standard cruises. I don't like to see them on a chair or in someone's lap being fed from the table. If you require a "service" animal to survive your day, maybe you shouldn't cruise. I love dogs but unless you are blind, put them in a kennel.

On our Celebrity Edge® Series ships, we may have reinvented the main restaurant experience with four restaurants, but we haven’t changed the way you plan your dining in these restaurants. Now, you can choose Celebrity Select Dining Early or Celebrity Select Dining Late, and you’ll be assigned one of the four main dining restaurants, while having the option to dine in the other three upon request. Choose Celebrity Select Dining Anytime, and you can dine in any of the four restaurants when you want. There’s nothing traditional about dining with us. With Celebrity Select Dining the choice of how you plan your evening meals is up to you.

Kids and Teen Programs
The fun starts at Camp At Sea, our onboard entertainment centre and program designed exclusively for kids ages 3 to 12. Open every day from 9:00am - 10:00pm, Camp at Sea offers kids the opportunity to participate in a number of entertaining activities, including treasure hunts, arts and crafts, sports, and theme parties, all under the supervision of our experienced youth staff. For our teen cruisers, the Teen Club is the place to be. At the Teen Club, they can make new friends and participate in events like video game competitions, teen parties, and culinary classes. Activities are overseen by our team of teen counsellors and offered throughout the day, allowing teens to come and go as they please.
Entertainment On Board
There’s no shortage of entertaining venues on board. Spend the day swimming in the pool with the kids, then watch the sunset while relaxing in one of our elevated hot tubs.
