Ship Reviews

We just finished our second Celebrity cruise onboard the Ascent. It was an amazing experience yet again in The Retreat. Our first cruise was on the Apex which was also amazing, but this one even topped that. First, the ship is absolutely beautiful and clean. It is their newest ship as of right now, but it really is a well thought out and designed ship. The additional space on The Retreat Sundeck was a huge plus and we were always able to find somewhere to sit and enjoy the sun, the pool, and the hot tubs. Our room, a Sunset Suite, was also very nice. The extra room on the balcony with chairs to sit with a table and two lounge chairs was great if we just wanted to be alone while being outside. The improved and larger Sunset Bar was a great place to hang out any time of day or night, and they even had a place tucked away to enjoy a cigar with your drink. Eden is a great space for live music and a drink or a meal at the back of the ship, but the hub is definitely around the martini bar in the middle of the ship on 3/4/5 and it is where most of the action is(casino, restaurants, coffee, etc.). It is a great place to hang out any time of day or night on the inside. The staff on this ship was absolutely exceptional. Our butler, room attendant, and concierge team were eager to serve and always had a smile. The staff at the restaurants, spa, the casino, and the shops were all the same. In today's world, at least in the US, customer service has apparently died for the most part since the pandemic. That is not the case anywhere on either of the Celebrity ships we have sailed on, and not just in The Retreat areas, although it is even a notch above there. They are always helpful and pleasant. It is a much appreciated change of pace from the "normal" world. The food on this cruise was absolutely awesome. On our last cruise we ate almost every meal at Luminae, the restaurant for The Retreat. It was great, but this time we wanted to try the speciality restaurants so we ate at all of them. Eden is a must. The food, presentation, and atmosphere is exquisite. We ate there twice because we loved it so much. The Rooftop Grill had a great lunch menu that was truly excellent and the atmosphere on the top deck outside was great. We did the meal on the Magic Carpet thing, which I guess they only do one night per sailing. The food, again, was amazing and the view were incredible. You get served the whole menu so you get to try everything. The one pitfall if there was one, is it got very windy once we set sail that night. My wife's hair was blowing everywhere, so ladies wear your hair back and tied up tight. The Fine Cut Steakhouse was also very good. We did order the more expensive dry aged steaks and if I had to do it again, I would have just went with the ones included, but the food was dynamite, just pricier than I hoped. Downfall of this meal besides a little pricey was the lighting which was very low which made it hard to see the menu. Le Voyage was outrageously good. We did the Chef's table and had an incredible time eating a meal with 3 couples(complete strangers) for 4 hours. The food and the wine pairings were insanely good. Not cheap but worth the cost and then add in 4 hours of great conversation with strangers and it really was an incredible night. I also ate lunch at Raw on 5 and it didn't disappoint either and is not a bad value at all. Left very happy from that one too. We had two meals at Luminae and it too was amazing. Quality of food an presentation was excellent, and the staff is second to none. Even the Oceanview Cafe buffet was solid. I often ate breakfast there because I didn't feel like walking all the way to the front of the ship to Luminae. The little snacks and coffee at El Bacio is a must if you are sweet tooth and coffee drinker like me. The activities on the ship and on the excursions that we did were also very good. We saw a show at the theater called Bridges and it was insane. I am not normally one for those types of shows, but the talent and choreography was truly excellent. They really did a fantastic job and kept this guy thoroughly entertained for over an hour, when I would normally have rather been at the casino. My only regret is not seeing more of them. The live music was also very good. There was a solo artist, a gal named Chloe(I think) who could really sing and played a great set of music every time. Kudos to the Cruise Director for finding this group of entertainers! They were phenomenal and we can't wait for our next one later this year. We only did one Celebrity excursion this time when we were at Cozumel. We did the Mexican Wrestling one with tacos and drinks. Holy cow this was so much fun. We were literally smiling ear to ear and laughing the whole time. Kudos to this group; they really put on a great show. They came out into the audience and interacted with us. A little kid, no more than 4 in front of us, got to slap on of the wrestlers while his dad held the wrestler's arms back. It was freaking epic. We bought a mask in case you were wondering. Definitely go to this one, you won't be disappointed, and if you are, you are a turd so lighten up. In the Caymans we just got off the ship with no plan and found some tour for $30 that was amazing. Wilmot, our tour guide, was hilarious and a great dude. Watch out for the cost of drinks at the bar at 7 mile beach. Vegas costs baby. Ridiculous to pay $80+ for 3 Pina Coladas. We stayed on the ship for Bimini because we wanted to enjoy the ship more than we did on the last cruise where we did a ton of excursions that took all day. Definitely was right move in our minds. Beach did look nice from afar.

From the moment we stepped on board the Celebrity Ascent, we knew we were in for something special. Every aspect of our cruise exceeded expectations, making it the best cruise we’ve ever been on. Our stateroom attendant, Migael, was simply outstanding! He went above and beyond to ensure our room was always immaculate, anticipating our needs before we even had to ask. His attention to detail and warm demeanor made our stay feel effortless. One of our favorite evening spots was the Social Bar, where Alesander crafted incredible cocktails with creativity and expertise. He not only made us fantastic drinks but also took the time to recommend new favorites, always serving with a welcoming smile. The Martini Bar and Social Club were also standout venues, though every bar onboard offered something unique. Mornings were a delight at the café, where we indulged in cappuccinos, lattes, and macchiatos alongside freshly baked pastries, muffins, cookies, and cakes. Sipping coffee while taking in the ocean views became our cherished morning ritual. The crew on the Ascent was nothing short of amazing—always friendly, always smiling, whether working, cleaning, or entertaining. Their passion for hospitality was truly evident. The captain’s charisma and the cruise director’s energy brought an extra layer of fun and excitement to the experience. And the entertainment? Absolutely mind-blowing! We were in awe of the sheer talent and the incredible variety of performances. Every night featured a different, top-tier show, and we couldn’t believe the level of skill and production value. It was, hands down, the best entertainment we’ve ever seen at sea. Beyond that, the ship itself was immaculate—far cleaner and better maintained than other cruise lines we’ve traveled with. The food selection was outstanding, offering something for everyone, including specialty dining options for an elevated experience. One of the most refreshing aspects of this cruise? No long lines! Unlike other cruise lines where you constantly feel rushed to queue up, Celebrity Ascent offered a seamless and relaxed experience. Service was always readily available, making everything feel effortless. In every way, this was a five-star cruise experience—luxurious, entertaining, and perfectly executed. We can’t wait to sail with Celebrity again!

We just finished one of the best cruise we have taken in over 30 years of cruising. Celebrity Ascent is an absolutely beautiful ship with the best staff!! The captain is very enthusiastic and it spreads through the whole ship. There was someone always cleaning and our cabin attendant kept our cabin spotless. We ate at Cypress the first night. The waiter suggested the short ribs and they were delicious. Very rich. We also ate at the Tuscan. Service was slow and the food was ok. We ate in the steakhouse and the filet mignon was so tender it melts in our mouth. The ultimate Sundae was my favorite thing on the whole ship. The food was good, lots of variety in the cafe. One night they had shrimp in different forms. Always had different types of hummus and small pita bread. Lots of fresh fruit and roasted veggies. Salad always available to make what you want. The entertainment was mostly good. The show the first night had some sexual undertones we didn't appreciate and I noticed a few people left. The Cher impersonator was spot on. Jon Courtenay was very entertaining as was the magician, illustionist. We loved playing the games available throughout the ship. The pool had the usual chair hogs but we are pool lovers so it didn't impact us. We didn't do breakfast or lunch in the the dining room because we were happy with the cafe choices. My husband had a couple of slices of pizza and said it was ok. We didn't eat at the Mast Grill. Our cabin was and we were ok with our choice. It had a small balcony with 2 chairs and table. The only problem was the loud music from the filter came up and was a little bit of an issue but not really bad. The bed is close to the door not the balcony. The cabin is quite spacious and the bath was well equipped. My friend was tickled with the shoe storage, the slim cabinet next to the bath. Enjoy this ship soon!

This was my second time on Celebrity Cruise line, and my 16th cruise overall, and there is a lot to say (both good and not-so-good) about the Ascent. High praise to the staff who assisted us both on and off the Ascent; we were on and off with tremendous ease and very little time waiting. The ship itself is beautiful and our stateroom was perfectly laid out. My travel companion is handicapped so we had an ADA stateroom and it was a pleasure to be in. We had the infinite veranda which suited us well. (We like the view but do not spend hours out on the veranda). The public spaces were lovely, but there was a significant lack of comfortable chairs to sit in!! Many of the chairs were low to the ground, or were reclined at an angle that made it difficult to get up from! Eden was a favorite spot to hang out, with its greenery and quiet ambience. Food in the main dining room was very, very good. We avoided the specialty restaurants as they were just too pricey. The Oceanview Grill buffet met all of our needs for breakfast and lunch, but I would agree with other reviewers that the peel & eat shrimp was very messy, and the crawfish were quite unappetizing. Some of the dishes were outstanding, and I was able to enjoy wonderfully fresh fruit and hearty salads each day. Entrees were good at the buffet, but you had to pick & choose. I liked that there were many of options, and there were daily themes, e.g., Mexican, Italian, Jamaican. As for shows and entertainment, I feel that this is one area where the Ascent is lacking. The Cher show was wonderful and engaging, but the other shows were pretty "meh". I have sailed over 10+ times on Disney, so I expect Broadway caliber shows, and I found myself wishing for better entertainment options on more than one occasion. Activities were pretty much cruise-ship norm; casino, art auction, Bingo, and the like. Shopping was mostly geared towards upscale shoppers (e.g., Louis Vuitton, Bulgari) or bargains (the $10 sale). I did not end up purchasing anything on this trip. I found the spa to be rather disappointing as well. I booked a full massage, and while it was adequate, it was not exceptional. I can say the same for the facial I received. It was nice, and I felt that the aesthetician was skilled, but no way did I feel it was worth the $260+ that I paid for it. I have a few big complaints that I feel merit sharing. Our cabin steward was very friendly and polite, but there were items from prior cruisers in our stateroom refrigerator (the mini-bar had been used, and had not been cleaned), and there was a tube of ointment on the upper shelf in the bathroom from a prior guest. Throughout the cruise, we constantly kept running out of things in our room (toilet paper, shower gel, clean towels) and we had to hunt down our steward to get these items refilled. We actually waited to see how long it would be to get the shower gel refilled (we had brought some of our own) but after 3 days with no refill, we ended up calling for a new bottle. Our stateroom telephone also went out one evening, so we were unable to order room service or make any calls. As this happened later in the evening, we had to wait until the next morning to report it and get it resolved. The telephone issue was resolved within 24 hours, but Guest Services were not particularly apologetic for this inconvenience. Generally speaking, we found the staff polite but aloof, and even disengaged at times. One of the most frustrating parts of the entire cruise was the Premium Drinks Package. This one really upset me and my companion When making drinks, the bartenders asked for your card & noted that you had the Platinum Drinks package, but were consistently using the cheapest brand of liquor to make the drinks unless you ASKED for brand name. My friend and I actually ordered drinks from opposite ends of one bar to test this theory and found that they would pour cheap rum, vodka, etc., unless you specified a brand. I believe other cruisers noted this as well, as I overheard other guests reminding the bartenders to use "Top Shelf" liquor. Others were asking for Grey Goose & cranberry so that they got their preferred brand. This seems to be a "bait & switch" money-saving tactic by Celebrity that I found extremely offensive given the price paid for the Platinum Drinks package. Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves on the cruise, as it was very relaxing, but the staff, especially the bartenders and the coffee cafe staff, were often curt with people, bordering on being rude. The spa cafe was also a complete disappointment, with no protein options for your beverages (shakes), a very limited menu, and limited hours. The Ascent is definitely a beautiful ship and we really enjoyed the itinerary, but with a few exceptions, the crew is not vested in making your time on the ship special.
