We really liked it ! It was great value for the money. We had an interior cabine that was spacious and very happy with it. We had a great steward - the safe was easy to use, bathroom clean.... all good. We had a fabulous table at the main dining room and were there every night except for one ( London ). Early sitting. We flew into Frankfurt ( from Canada ) and then took the train to Hamburg and overnighted there. While there we explored Hamburg and took the ferry around the waterfront at night. We were impressed at the embarkation process. We had done pre check in and we were literally thru in 15 minutes. We had ordered the no alcohol package. My husband does not drink. I do like wine but it did not make sense. We did enjoy this package though. And we were lucky to get it somewhat discounted. We only did one excusion and it was actually a disappointment as we had so little time in London and got stuck in so much traffic. London was expensive in everyway - the only city I would not want to go back to in the itinerary. We did Amsterdam and prebooked the train before we arrived with the fast option. It was great. We did a prebooked canal cruise via Get Your Guide. Visited many areas and walked around and had a beer along the canal. For Bruges - we walked to the train which let you off close to the park. It was Wednesday - Market day in Bruges. We did a canal tour here as well - spontaneously with Best Boat Tours. It was fantastic - short but informative and funny and the best views. Went to the Flanders brewery after and split a cheese plate and had a craft beer. For Le Havre - we took a Bolt to the bus station and took the bus to L'Etretat. We walked into the town and then up the stairs to see the Jardin D'Etretat. Beautiful ! Quite a hike though and the stairs were tough at the end. Had a beer in the town - quite touristy here . We took the bus back. Lucky enough to catch another bus going to the port so it was easy. It was nice to see the small towns and the french country side. For Southampton- we decided to go with the cruise ship option and take the bus DIY London. A mistake. We had next to zero time there. We ended up taking a boat tour on the Thames. and running back to catch the bus back - which got stuck in traffice. Ugh. Overall - the cruise was exception value. The food was not on par with NCL or Holland BUT it had it's high points. Bread was amazing... pasta good.... usually there was one option that was very good. We had a vegetarian at our table and I did not think her meals looked that great. There were MANY children on this vessel - school was out for 2 weeks in Germany. It was nice to see them. Lattes and Americanos were included in the package so we enjoyed a couple of those. We were VERY well treated by staff. They work so hard ! I really thought they were great. Ship was super clean. Very secure. Well run. MANY languages on this ship ! A very different crowd than most cruises. I would say - mostly families and young people. There were not alot of older cruisers on this boat. We are in our early 60s and I would say we were in the top 5 % of age.
It wouldn’t be fair to rate the cruise only average 3/5, it was good and more affordable than other lines. Our cabin was an obstructed balcony overlooking the lifeboats so not really obstructed in my opinion. The decor was tired but not unpleasant and the cabin felt spacious for 2 people. The shower doors that fold inwards out of the way make the bathroom feel much bigger. We didn’t do any activities apart from bingo (40 Euros for 3 cards) and that was over priced as there was only a full house to win, no lines or rows. The main dining room was busy and dinner could take 2 hours. The staff were friendly and attentive, especially our waiter. The food was good but not outstanding. The bar service was quicker at some bars than others and everything we could possibly want was included in our Premium Extra package (everything up to 14 Euros) which we got at a reduced price when we booked. I expected the coffee to be better on an Italian cruise line but it may have been that all the milk is UHT which I don’t really like. The coffee in the buffet is quite nice and I drunk big mugs of it. The buffet food is good, especially the pizzas and burgers. The buffet does get busy and the layout makes it feel more so. We could always get a table right down at the back. The waiter call bells on the tables for drinks were hit and miss. Sometimes it was quicker to go to the bar. Embarkation (onboard by 10.37am) and disembarkation at Southampton were easy. Overall it was a good cruise and we wanted to go to Hamburg which is why we chose this itinerary.
