We loved our Pride of America cruise! We sailed on January 17, 2026. This was our first time visiting Hawaii. We arrived one day early and stayed at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. We then went to the Paina Waikiki Luau at the hotel, which was the perfect beginning to our trip: it was a lot of fun, with great dancing and music! Please note that the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa has started work to repair the concrete on their balconies, which can be noisy. I think this only happens between 9:00A and 5:00P on weekdays, but you might want to check if you decide to stay there. Aside from the construction, the hotel is in a great location, with two pools, and beautiful ocean-view rooms. We were in Suite on POA, which was wonderful. The cabin was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. We scheduled one half-day excursion every day, which left us plenty of time to relax and enjoy our balcony. I have noted the excursions below and our opinions about them. We ate at Jefferson's Bistro, Cagney's Steakhouse, East Meets West, and La Cucina. We liked them all, but East Meets West was our favorite restaurant. We also enjoyed the pizza at La Cucina. In Maui, we booked two excursions through NCL: Zodiac Raft Whale Watching Adventure and the Downhill Bicycle Adventure. We really liked the zodiac trip and saw a lot of whales. Jade, the tour leader, was super. She spent a lot of time answering questions and spotting whales for the group. We did not like the bike trip that much. Both my husband and I thought that Joe, the tour leader, was extremely rude and aggressive. Also, you have to be willing to ride down the volcano at 25 mph. Some people loved that: we did not. In Hilo, we booked the Kilauea Summit & Volcano House Heritage Experience through NCL. We loved this excursion! Volcanoes National Park is amazing: starkly beautiful and incredibly impressive. Dina (sp?) was our tour leader. She was incredibly knowledgeable and explained everything in an easy-to-understand manner. After our tour, we were provided with a snack buffet lunch in the Volcano House restaurants. In Kona, we booked the Kona Food Walking Tour on our own and really enjoyed it. Kamakea was our tour guide and did a wonderful job bringing us to fun places to eat and drink. In Kauai, we booked two tours on our own: horseback riding and a hike. The horseback ride was booked through CJM Country Stables. The ride was fantastic! While it was walking only, the scenery and views were incredible. We even saw more whales! We reserved a taxi to and from the stable with Kauai Transportation Company. The hiking tour was not to our liking. It was in the same area that we rode (Shipwreck beach) and was hot (no shade) and sandy. We cut that one short. In Oahu, we booked the Pearl Harbor & Scenic Oahu Experience through Tours by Locals. This tour was wonderful! Pearl Harbor was very moving, and our guide (Yolanda) did a terrific job explaining the history and providing logistics on how to make the most out of our visit. We then toured the southeast side of Oahu, which provided one gorgeous view after another. We even managed to walk the Makapu‘u Point Lighthouse Trail, from which we saw more whales! We then went to Auana, the Cirque Du Soleil production in Waikiki. We really enjoyed that performance and highly recommend it. In Waikiki, we ate dinner at Tikis Grill & Bar and the Beach Bar at the Moana Surfrider. In Honolulu, we had lunch at the Honolulu Museum of Art and another lunch at Nico's Pier 38. We enjoyed all of those meals, with the Beach Bar and Nico’s being our favorites. A great trip and a fabulous cruise.
