Ship Reviews

Just got off Caribbean cruise on the EPIC. Overall, we had a very good trip and enjoyed ourselves. Here are my experiences for the EPIC itself, hopefully, to help folks as they make future plan. I will make post about the Entertainment aboard and experiences with the excursions we took in separate posts… #norwegiancruiseline #norweigianepic #norwegiancruise EPIC * Not a fan of the weird bathroom layout * Very cramp rooms * Feet hang off the curved bed * We did not have any shelving room because of inside room door to another room that was never opened. Eventually found drawers under couch and two couch cushions swing out for storage. * On the 14th floor and did not rock as much as I imagined being higher up * No speakers in room, so could not hear any announcements in the room * Only one electrical socket under cabinet on small area. Brought a small electrical cord to stretch across floor to head of bed. Luckily had a small light on it so we could see it at night to prevent tripping. Make sure cord is approved for cruising. * Be aware, if you have patio door open, creates a suction and hard to open the room door itself. Could slam back on you or anyone trying to enter * We were midship on 14th floor. Exit & Elevators are long walk forward at cabin 14057 and rear at cabin 14167. * Some of the even numbers, such as 14096, have to come down starboard (odd number side to 15093) with a cut through hallway that goes back to port side (even number midship). This about doubles you walk depending on how far you have to go… * Make appropriate time on debarkation date. With everyone leaving the ship, elevators were extremely packed. Might not be able to have breakfast before you leave * Majority of the port of calls were on the starboard side Small elevators * Elevators are only forward and aft. * Usually packed goingbup or down, especially with The Garden Cafe and pool on 15th floor * Found ourselves usually going up from 14 to 15 so we could have room coming down * For awareness, 4th floor is not active until they announce ok for disembarking Steward * All I can say he was great. * Brought us coffee pot, made sure coffee packets were filled, and extra hangers day one. * Very attentive to our needs * And when we call housekeeping late at night, he answered the phone Buffet-The Garden cafe * Food mediocre, Tasteless * Not as much variety as other cruises I have been on. * Four sections with all the same options. * Buffet only had a few water stations around it and always line waiting * Cannot remember from last cruise, but glasses seemed to be smaller. Bring a drink container to fill up * All tea was instant and very cloudy. Took awhile to acquire taste * Cooked omelette one time and was half cooked. * Hand made crepe station was excellent, as such it was very popular * Be watchful of times it is opened. After 3:30, need to go to pool area to get food * Usually went to The Taste or The Manhattan for breakfast or dinner. Not long wait if any * Would not recommend the quick breakfast at The Taste. Scrambled eggs extremely runny Speciality Dining * As soon as you get on board, go to library to make or change reservations * Draw a number and wait. We got there and they were on 12 and our number was 57. About a hour wait and that’s with many folks giving up waiting. * Cagney not up to par as other NCL ships I have been on. Ribeye I ordered Medium Well and came back as Rare. My wife ordered filet Medium Well and came back extremely well done. Wife reordered filet again, and this 2nd time came back rare. Mgr did not charge us for her meal. Left one spare dinner on my account to use elsewhere. So we did not lose it, they earned another $50 from us once we booked another speciality dining * Other Specialty places were better, but not quality we had in the past. Entertainment * Started off with Burn to Floor play, and it lived up to the negative comments I read before coming on cruise * In my opinion, singers were not good at all. Could not make out words most of the times. Voices very nasally, sometimes whining and yelling. Most of the time it sounded like they were in the mic * Dancing however was entertaining * Did not recognize any of the songs * The Broadway 80s edition and Red, White and British plays had the same singers and dancers. Felt like both were just a continuation of Burn the Floor * Seems to be after each song for all three shows, folks started leaving in droves and at the end for couple of shows, stadium was half empty. * The Magician’s show was great. It was packed. * We went to the Comedy early show vs the late show (it was labeled as 18+). Standing room only and we got there 30 minutes early. It was great. * Not impressed with some of the smaller musical bands we heard. Not on par with other NXL ships. * Murder Mystery in Spiegel Tent was different and good. Better than expected. * Game shows if you have time were good as well

This is my first time writing a review. This is our second time on Epic. We have had a great time both times. Actually, this is one of our favorite ships. We are fans of signing in later in the day on a cruise ship upon arrival. There was minimal lines and minimal waiting to board the ship later in the day. We went from Cape Canaveral the first time with a Caribbean schedule. The second time we went out of Puerto Rico with a Caribbean schedule. Cape Canaveral is a super easy location. We stayed in the Disney area 2 days prior. We swam with the manatees and went to Disney Springs. We always build 1-2 days in prior to a cruise to be safe. We highly recommend building in a buffer day or 2 to alleviate problems. Yes, the bathroom design is not ideal on Epic. We use Poopouri spray. We have been to 50 countries and all 50 states< so we are very experienced travelers. We get the inside cabin. So we are seasoned travelers with not super high standards. We greatly appreciate all the reviews posted, negative and positive. I call it pearls of wisdom that make a trip better and tailored for us. The entertainment on the Epic is the most fun we have experienced. Burn the Floor and Red, White and Blue are energetic dance and music numbers. The small venues Cavern Club, Spiegel tent and Headliners are where the real fun occurs at night. We thoroughly enjoyed the Beatles, the comedians and the Dueling pianos. The small venue requires you to show up early if your cruise is full. The first time, the ship was half full and we had no reservations and enjoyed the small venues. The second time we were on the waiting list, signed in on deck 6 upon arrival for main shows, but got in with no problems. The ship was full. Eating was again, no problem when 1/2 capacity or full. Make reservations for specialty dining prior to arrival if possible, or upon arrival. The Italian food was divine. We also enjoyed the large salad buffet and meat servings at the Brazilian restaurant. The cruise from Puerta Rico had a stop every day. So the cruise is very fast paced if you get off at every port. !/2 excursions were done with cruise and 1/2 on our own. I make this choice by how long we are in port (very key) and what I want to do. Do you want to be with 6 people, 8, 20, 60 or 100? Factor that into your choice of excursions. Herbert was our cabin Stewart and did an excellent job. Just use the same common sense you do at home. Go to meals early or late. Be kind to the staff and you will have a much better experience. We always carry our own luggage off upon disembarking. Cape Canaveral was very easy. Puerta Rico was extremely busy due to the number of people all at the ride share location. But with phone contact info we were able to keep track of our ride share driver and connect up easily. My biggest tips are to read 50 reviews on cruise critic, read all you can on Norwegian website, review the layout of the ship and of the cruise port terminal so you will feel comfortable.
