Ship Reviews

My husband and I had a wonderful cruise in Tahiti on the Nautica. This was our first time on an Oceania cruise, and we were most impressed with the ship and the crew. First, they helped me recover my lost bag from Delta. Both the concierge and assistant purser were true heroes for me. Thanks so much! The ship itself was beautiful; all of the interiors looked brand new. We had heard that the food on Oceania was the best on the sea, and we were not disappointed. The grand dining room had consistently excellent food. We particularly loved the service in the Polo Grill. The food was delicious. We also ate several times in the Wave. The fish sandwich was terrific, and the burger was good too. I was a fan of the shrimp roll. Lastly, the selection of food in Terrace Cafe was amazing. I liked the regional specialties that they offered daily, and my husband was a big fan of the ice cream. It was extra creamy! I visited the spa for a life changing massage; I literally could touch my toes much more easily after that stone massage. My husband and I enjoyed several shore excursions. The sunset cruise in Bora Bora should not be missed! The only shore excursion that disappointed was the canoe trip down the river in Raitiea. It did rather remind me of the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland. There wasn't much to see. Lastly, a big shout-out to our butler, Titus. He was the best! He helped us when we needed to reschedule a reservation at the Polo Grill, which I think was a minor miracle. He made our cruise so easy and enjoyable. All in all we had a fantastic time!

As a first time cruiser, but fairly well travelled, I was pleasantly surprised. The best part of the cruise was the exceptional staff. From our room stewards, to all the staff at the dining venues, to the performers who had other roles on sea days, to the guys who ran to help with our bags when the entrance on embarkation day was confusing, everyone was very helpful. Embarkation day, a little confusing. The entrance to the port was a little confusing, we came from the taxi side but there was no sidewalk to walk on so we went around. We met others who walked from the sidewalk side who were told to walk to our side. The terminal guys were helpful and called for directions and halfway there, the luggage porters came running to assist us. You were given a boarding time, but it did not seem like your room was ready, so they sent you to one of the dining areas to get a meal. We headed to the bar to see the Chiefs/Bills game as it seemed to be one of the few places with a screen. Very crowded. Around three, they announced all rooms were now available , so we headed off. Our oceanview stateroom was fine. It was small, but we had expected that. It was clean and comfortable. Enough storage and plenty of electrical outlets. The shower is small but so are we, so it was fine. It would be hard if you were larger though. Wonderful coffeebar to start your morning. Then off to breakfast. Food was always fresh and plentiful at the buffet. We did breakfast most mornings here, anything you could want, but we mostly went with fresh fruit , lox and cream cheese toast, oatmeal and a sticky bun. If we had lunch, it was usually at the Waves Grill and by day 3, we could not eat more, so we were splitting a waygu burger. We are not big drinkers, but our drink server knew our beer order before we sat down. There was a lovely ice cream/smoothie station by Waves too. Dinner was usually at the Grand Dining Room, no complaints, just good food each night. Menu changed each evening, but there would always be a fish/meat/chicken option and there always seemed to be a green/Caesar salad on each night. Also a different souffle and ice cream flavor each night. On our plan , we were able to reserve once each at the specialty restaurants (an Italian and a steakhouse). Our favorite was the italian for the homemade pasta and the olive oil cart, the steakhouse was just like a regular steakhouse on land (nothing special). We had opted willing to share tables (if necessary) on our survey and I was a little wary as I thought it could be awkward, ie. if someone started and then you were seated waiting for your meal, but the hostess was great, they may have ordered their drinks, but the waiter seemed to take all orders at once. We met some very nice couples at dinner. One of our favorite activities was the daily tea from 4-5. Exceptional! There were fresh scones and clotted cream with three different tea sandwich choices and maybe six desserts to choose from each day. The servers wheeled the cart to each table for your selection. There was a four piece strings group at this time too. Pool, It was small, it was crowded, I did not use it once. Pool area was always busy with a limited number of shaded chairs. We were only able to use once on cruise as people seemed to keep them for the whole day. The area was always cleaned and refreshed when we passed by to the gym in the morning. Small fitness room, tons of exercise specific machines that took a fair amount of space probably not used by this demographic (seniors). From what I saw, only the treadmills and the small free weights were being used. Fitness classes were limited in both offerings and variety. There seemed to be a gentle stretch and yoga each day and a cycle every other day. It would have been good to have had a Zumba style class or a few more HIIT classes offered. Outdoor walking track, good idea in theory, but it is very small and you are in the full sun (and our cruise was tropical) so no for me. Some evenings, it was a bit windy to walk (which was usually when the ship was in motion too). Day trips, lots offered , but two of the four we had booked were cancelled. They were very good about trying to get you to re book something else but options were often filled by the time you had to look at other options. It seemed just as easy (and less expensive) to arrive on dock and pick your own from one of the land vendors. We knew not to expect big Vegas style shows on such a small ship but enjoyed the performances by the six singers/dancers on show nights. Mostly music styles from the sixties/seventies. There was also a comedian on two evenings. Nice games room with cards/puzzles/games. Beautiful library. Tenders to port and back, I would rate as exceptional. If you had a day trip, you usually met somewhere early and they would call you down in order. Then when the busy part was over a general announcement was made over the PA that no tickets were required anymore. There were always three or four men ready to help you board. They were very careful with each passenger. We are not mobility challenged, but for some seniors, they needed a lot of assistance getting on and off. While waiting for your ride back, there would be a small tented area with cold water and cold , refreshing, hand towels. Bougie. Laundry room, nice option, about four free working machines, with detergent provided. Great for when you return from beach days and need a good rinse off of your swim suits. Very busy though as it serves the whole ship. Disembarkation day was probably the only day we had to wait. Maybe being first time cruisers, we are rule sticklers. You are given notice a few days before of when you need your luggage outside your door the night before and when you must leave so they can have a smooth turnaround. I think ours said 8 or 8:30. So we ordered room service breakfast and were ready at our gangplank at that time. But for some reason, they were also bringing people onboard at that time who would be starting another cruise so we had to wait to get off the ship. So all in all, pretty great trip for a first timer. The ports of call stayed true to the itinerary and were truly beautiful. Of the cruise experience itself on the Nuatica, exceptional service is what my biggest takeaway is.
