Sirena

The better-than-new Sirena blends sophistication with a contemporary flair to create a casually elegant ambiance that embodies the most treasured elements of our celebrated ships. Every surface of every suite and stateroom is entirely new, while in the public spaces, a refreshed colour palette of soft sea and sky tones surrounds a tasteful renewal of fabrics, furnishings and lighting fixtures that exquisitely encompasses the inimitable style and comfort of Oceania Cruises.

Beautiful sister ship to charming Regatta, Insignia and Nautica, 670-guest Sirena embodies the most treasured elements of our celebrated fleet and features a few highlights all her own. Better than new, Sirena includes entirely new suites, staterooms and bathrooms and reflects the same beautifully re-inspired ambiance as her sister ships. She features Tuscan Steak, her signature specialty restaurant, which serves Italian favorites, succulent steaks and fresh seafood inspired by Toscana and Polo Grill, as well as the beloved restaurant Red Ginger. Sirena offers 2 additional unique, open-seating restaurants, the Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center, eight lounges and bars, a casino and 333 luxurious suites and staterooms, nearly 70% of which feature private verandas.

Ship Reviews

We have cruised both river and ocean cruises extensively over the years, but this was our first time cruising with Oceania, unfortunately it will probably be our last. This was described as a 5 star cruise, but disappointingly it wasn’t. The flight out from London landed at Bridgetown Barbados which we liked, no having to overnight in Miami. We were through immigration in approx 20 mins. and were met at the main door and taken swiftly to our small bus to take us to the ship. Embarkation was very quick we were swiftly on board and directed to deck 5 to the Sirena lounge to have our passports checked and photographed as well as our ESTAs. We then went straight to our cabin on deck 6 forward. We were met by our steward who was always friendly and helpful. The bed was still configured as a double but he swiftly changed it to a twin. Our luggage arrived quickly and we unpacked and had a quick shower and went for dinner. This leads me to the worst part of the cruise ship. Our cabin was small, although just about acceptable. The balcony was small but held 2 seats and a small table. The shower room however was completely unacceptable! This was the smallest shower room I have ever had the misfortune to have on a ship. The shower itself was so small it made turning round in it difficult to put it mildly. In order to dry ourselves and dress we actually had to open the shower room door and keep it open to let the steam out and leave space to dress. I know that ships bathrooms are never big, but this was absolutely ridiculous and totally unacceptable. The ship itself is very attractive, lots of dark wood with artworks and ceramics. There are lots of bars, but another loss is no dedicated cafe. The bar at the main dining room was used as a cafe during the day until evening, but wasn’t really ideal. It did have some small sandwiches and cookies, but few sweets or treats, I would’ve liked to have bought some chocolates and treats to take home but these were not available either, which was a shame. The food is described as the best at sea, however I have to disagree, I’ve had just as nice on other ships over the years. I like my meat medium to well, but this was often ignored and would be much pinker than I really like. Also the menu was not particularly extensive or at times inviting. We didn’t use either of the specialty restaurants, I don’t particularly like Asian fusion and the steakhouse didn’t really appeal. When we were seated in the main dining room the sommelier would come round reasonably quickly to pour a glass of wine, but getting one to pour a second glass was often an exercise in futility, even if you could actually see one, it was usually in the distance while they passed to tend to someone else or to clear glasses to reset tables for breakfast. The food in the buffet in the terrace cafe especially for breakfast was limited and uninspiring. The lunch menu was not particularly inviting or extensive either. We did have breakfast in our cabin on several occasions when we had an early tour, this was always on time and fresh and enjoyable. Room service was 24 hours with a reasonable menu. The pool deck loungers were very comfortable if you could find one. On sea days this was at times impossible as despite there being supposedly no hogging of sun beds this in fact was extensive, there are some sun beds on both sides of deck 5 which was helpful. Another loss was there is no separate enclosed solarium. The gym was excellent. A good although not extensive number of machines were available. There is an excellent library with lots of comfortable seating. We only went to one show in the Sirena lounge which was ok. There is not much in the way of enrichment other than quizzes or bingo etc. there was a lecturer on several occasions but at such a time that we couldn’t attend. We did attend a cooking demonstration which was interesting but frankly chaotic. The head chef was cooking a chicken dish while the pastry chef was making a sweet treat, but they both were working at the same time so we couldn’t actually see at times what either were doing, which was frustrating. The staff were universally helpful and friendly. Disembarkation was chaotic. To be fair NOT Oceania’s fault. We had to go through US immigration but there was only 1 border control person initially which delayed everything. When we did get off the ship it still took us about an hour to get through as there were still only 2 border control guards on duty. Embarkation began at 8am and the last passengers finally exited at 11.30am. We had a bus transfer to Miami airport which was also chaotic. It took us an hour after boarding before we could finally set off. When we got to the airport the driver was confused as to where the passengers were going and as his English was poor, he didn’t understand us and we couldn’t understand what the problem was so chaos ensued as he wanted to put the bags back on the bus and move somewhere else. We gave up and walked through the terminal as we usually do. The vast majority of passengers on this cruise were elderly, many with mobility issues. There were very few passengers under the age of 50, with many passengers over 80. This was not a cruise for younger people. We did enjoy the cruise, but will be very unlikely to take another with Oceania.

This was our third Oceania cruise, previously on Marina (Penthouse, Verandah) this time on Sirena (Oceanview). Since our experience is based on what happened onboard as well as our expectations, our comments are based on having sailed 30+ times overall and several with their contemporaries, such as Viking Sea and Azamara. We enjoyed our 21-day itinerary, Western Caribbean from Miami to Panama City and Southern Caribbean to Miami. We chose this itinerary to maximize our snorkeling opportunities and we were able to snorkel at six ports. The port-of-calls vary in quality. We were glad to experience four new ports. The worst excursion was a visit to the Falls at Santa Marta, Colombia. The best port facility was Cartagena, Colombia with its Port Oasis Eco Park full of birds, monkeys, and other animals. We were happy to have access to port specific concierge service. Some of them are provided at the terminal and some on board the ship. The ship overall was nicely decorated and clean. We loved the chic stateroom decor, convenient plugs and reading lights. The bathroom was small but it was acceptable for us. The internet was good enough for me to have business zoom meetings while at ports. The miso-glazed seabass at Red Ginger is still awesome. We were pleasantly surprised with the updated menu in the Grand Dining room and learned that the awesome stateroom menu items, such as Red Thai Curry, can also be ordered at the GDR. I missed the surf and turf on the pool deck. It's now surf and Wagyu burger. The buffet was not exciting compared to Azamara and Viking. The ice cream and grill station are the best parts. During prime hours, wine and bar service is too slow on the back deck. The barista coffees were good. The machine cappuccino and perked coffees were not. Entertainment and speakers are a hit-and-miss on smaller ships. We enjoyed the performances by the Sirena band members and singers. We appreciate the cruise director Dotty bringing us local dancers from Panama on our overnight stop there. The guests were older than what I remembered from the "more exotic" itineraries we had been on. We met some nice people during our cruise. Oceania experimented with this mandatory package of shore excursions and alcohol during lunch and dinner. It suited us fine this time, but it's good that they've gone back to providing choices. The pricing at the spa was high. I understand that there is a premium at sea, but I didn't feel like paying 3x what I would pay for the services of a well-trained Registered Massage Therapist from Ontario. The staff was great overall. Some were new, as expected. We had to coach our stateroom attendant a bit, and we appreciated his work. Everyone had to learn on the job at some point, right? We learned that no cruise operation is perfect. It's a matter of finding the best fit for what you want from a vacation and taking advantage of the best each ship/line can offer. Here are my suggestions for Oceania: 1. Monitor the service level and schedule more bar staff at peak times 2.Keep the wonderful menus at the Grand Dining Room, Specialty restaurants and especially for the in-room dining. Do find a way to improve the buffet though. 3. The snack selection at the barista is very basic and unexciting - please check out what Azamara and Celebrity do - they offer more exciting things and they change the variety often 4. Bring back the filet surf and turf at the outdoor grill - this and the miso seabass were the reasons I chose Oceania, and you've just taken half of them away 5. Keep the ice cream bar and grill at the buffet. I love the quality and size of the shrimp served, but they shouldn't be pre-grilled before an order is placed at the grill station. They came out too tough. 6. Have more Asian sauces - genuine Sambal Oelek, Thai chili sauce, etc. 7. Thank you for having a slate of non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. We just have to wait for the wine industry to find a way to make non-alcoholic wines taste closer to traditional wine. The beer people have done it well. Forgot to try cocktails with non-alcoholic gin. 8. Finest cuisine at sea—Thank you for the quality of the ingredients. I like that the food is not too salty. As usual, the challenge is having great staff to consistently prepare it. Most of the customer-facing staff like to work for Oceania, and I hope that you have the same draw for the "behind-the-scenes" cooks!
