Ship Reviews

100% would cruise Princess again. I will speak of smaller Princess ships. This is my third Princess cruise in one year (and ever). I've been cruising 55 years, on most of the major and some minor lines. It is hard to compare then and now. Things I love about Princess: Room layout dressing area. Friendly crew. Package perks. Complete promenade (please bring back loungers) Things that need improvement: Wine by the glass, bar staffing, MDR menu. Boarding in FLL was easy. Luggage was taken from Uber (not always so). Line was manageable. No discernible convenience for Platinum. Obstructed cabin was as expected. Cabin service was impeccable. Orange souffle on boarding was not to be missed! Ship is in fine condition, plenty of seating. Library unmatched, game room lovely. Sadly, receiving service in most areas, even with oceans now is marginal. Red wine by the glass in sub optimal. Premier package helps. Improvement is needed in this area. Overall bar service is lacking. Understaffing is the primary cause. Waiting +20mins regularly is unacceptable. Ordered Champagne, watched while one bottle was emptied and another completely different sort topped off my glass. Doubting overall that what you order is what you are actually served on many occasions. Food in specialty dining is great, service is 100% plus. MDR is adequate, although even in one year is less. Service is good, but in 16 days - lobster and escargot only once. Noticeable decline in quality. Chef is doing splendidly with less. Usually enjoy sharing a table. My experience this time.....well, um, less so. I enjoy production shows. They were great. Overall the women were stand outs on this troupe (not usually so in my experience). I'd like to say that 30 wardrobe changes do not a production show make. For the general age range of Princess, I think overall the entertainment is missing the mark. ie 5 decades extends only to the 80's. Sad I know! I'd enjoy more classical. Volume is TOO LOUD!!! everywhere. There are so many venues, but only 2 or 3 open at any one time. Wouldn't it be grand if you could choose various sort of music all day. Violins in the Atrium were lovely, and for far to short a time. Two excursions were worthwhile. Aruba snorkeling although weather prevented the feature (?!). Puerta Vallarta visit to Majahuitas was glorious. Do this now while it's new. Also Yelpa - so changed in 30 years. Panama Canal in old locks was the reason for this cruise. Lack of manners in fellow cruisers made the forward experience, sad. Aft experience was not forward, but far superior. Bucket list satisfied. Puerto Chiapas is underwhelming. $25 for two shuttle to town is, well we did it, wouldn't do it again. Huatulco - impeccably clean taxi to town $5. Lovely church. Mercado - if you've never been - go, if so then same old. Best part - fresh corn tortillas. Tip - beach restaurant exchange rate is ....poor. Disembarkation: was delayed. Luggage neatly arranged. Immigration seemed to be the hang up. One driving area that mixes incoming passengers and debarking passengers at the same time is never going to work well. Overall - really happy with Princess, especially the value of the packages. Left with the feeling that since you've already paid for drinks, it's no longer the profit center it once was. Absolutely would cruise Princess again, on smaller ships. I love this!

Coral Princess is a gem. Perfect for the Panama Canal cruise. She has "secret" forward decks on deck 10 and 11 which we utilized on Panama Canal day. Far away from the crowds on the Lido deck looking through glass. She also has aft decks on 11, 10, 9, and 8. Also great for the view of the wake and the canal. I loved the Sanctuary on this ship. It is aft, with it's own private pool, and sweeping views of the wake and sea from the lounge chairs. Excellent entertainment. She is an older ship, so some of the hallways could use updating, and the food in the main dining room was mostly good, but a bit hit and miss. Overall, an excellent ship, small in size and easy to get on and off in ports. The service is great, and the entertainment is excellent with many music venues. The shows I attended were all great, and packed with people. I highly recommend the Coral Princess sanctuary. It is in my view, the best in all the ships because it is aft, and has its own aft pool. All of the lounge chairs have beautiful seeping views of the ocean and wake. You get a healthy lunch menu and afternoon tea.

First time using Princess EZ-Air. Flew a red eye from LAX-FLL and arrived day of cruise ( I know, but it worked for me). arrived around 6am day of cruise, but couldn't board until noon. Spent the morning at the Amex Escape Lounge. Took an Uber to port, arrived in about 15-20 min. Checked in at port to pick up my medallion, and boarded ship. Got upgraded to a Reserve class min suite, so had lunch in the Reserve Class section of dining room. The cabin was spacious enough. Seperate sitting area with fold out sofa bed and tv, plus VERY COMFORTABLE king bed with another tv. Didn't care for the bathroom because you had to climb over and into a tub to take a shower. Motion sensor lights under nightstands and hallway into bathroom would go on when activated at night ( only stayed on about 30 seconds). Lots of closet space and shelving. We stayed Mid-Ship, deck 9 which was perfect. Couldn’t feel much ship movement. Balcony had 2 chairs with foot rests so you sort of had lounge chairs, along with a small round table for 2. Our first stop was Aruba. We did the Atlantis Submarine ( the real submarine, went down 415 feet to the bottom of the ocean floor). The highlight of course is transversing the Panama Canal. Being on the smaller ship, we were able to go thru the Historic Canal. So much more interesting the newer canal. Once you dock in Panama City, you are not allowed to get off ship during the night. The historical sites are far from the port, so I would recommend a Ship excursion. Now comes the sad part. Upon visiting Puerto Chiapas, we picked up some sort of illness. It was nasty!!!!! We quarenteened in our room for the last 6 days of the cruise. Couldn’t eat, intestonal issues ( felt real sorry for our great cabin steward). Went into the hospital upon returning ( 7 days in ICU, 3 days in regular hospital). Pneumonia, still recovering after 2 weeks. Im a pretty good cook, so I didnt find the food anything to write home about. EVERYTHING was room temp at best, no flavor. Casino was small, but fun-ish. A man the next row over won $10,000 on penny slots. There is no service charge when you charge your room for your casino play. The bars on board were ok. Spent most of my time in WheelHouse. All the servers were nice and very attentive. Disembarkation was a breeze in LA. If we didn’t get sick, I would be planning my next cruise. BUT, due to being in ICU once I got home, I think I am done cruising for awhile. Sorry for any mispelling or poor grammer, but you get my point.

The friendliest crew ever. Every crew member from Captain to the cleaning help were smiling and greeted every one and were so helpful to find areas on the ship. The medallions were the best tool ever. It opened doors, helped to find your shipmates, whether they were somewhere on the ship and located them not only to the deck they were on but to their exact position. The entertainment in the atrium was great. Some classical, (2 female violinists) some country, and lots of interaction with the top crew members with fun and entertaining games with willing passengers. The buffet was different every day. A favorite for breakfast and lunch. We had early seating in the dining room and that was varied every evening and many choices for starters, main courses and dessert. There were many specialty restaurants, but we never did go as there were plenty of good choices in the main dining room. We only ate breakfast twice in the main dining room as we loved the variety of fruits in/on the buffet. It is an older ship but our steward was able to correct small issues that needed attention, and very quickly. If I had one small negative, for me, was that the people on board were the older set and several nights it was way too loud and of the Mo Town variety. Great for tje 30-50 set. But noticed lots of older folks walked out . Most of the evening shows were great. All of the entertainment had great singers but not my type of music for the older folks that this 16 day cruise catered to.
