Ship Reviews

Capt and crew fantastic as usual. A few things I tried to find out prior to sailing and things we found different on board. The Stirling Steakhouse and Alfredo's is not on board this ship any longer, contrary to the ships signage. Hence for those of you who have purchased a package, the only complimentary dining options other than the Savoy, Vivaldi etc, is the is Kai Sushi restaurant (haven't been yet but book early!) On the next cruise (M508 based solely out of Japan), the Izumi spa will be traditional Onsen format. I.E. in the buff. For those pre covid cruisers, things have changed since. No more chocolates on pillows. Horizon Court is not self serve. Cleaning of the ship has moved up a great deal. Staff are constantly cleaning and if the tables appear wet, the residue evaporates pretty quickly from the sanitiser. (We brought some Glen 20 and some wipes to give our cabin the once over on day 1 but was pretty good anyway) Bingo can be traditional with dobbers and paper or they also have a tablet form as well. Biggest change for us was the medallion experience. For those who haven't used it, it doesn't take long to get used to. Everything on your mobile is user friendly. Only thing is you find you are taking it everywhere. The WiFi is excellent and fast. Emails are quick and while I don't use social media, Whatsapp worked well for staying in contact to back home. All in all, I would rather be missing some of the little things we had on board in the past and still have Princess operating. Covid was a killer for a lot of businesses so we're happy for our preferred cruise line to be operating the high seas once again.

It is a long flight from DFW to BNE. We were tired after almost 17 hours, arriving at 6:30 am. We waited until there were no more bags then filed a claim for our lost luggage. We were told they were still in Texas and would be on the next flight to be delivered to our hotel Monday by 10 AM. It never happened! We got a ride to the local shopping mall to pick up some clothes and took a taxi to the port with our shopping bags. The line was 2 hours long. We met some very nice people in line and had some great times with them during the cruise. Once on board we stopped at guest services to request assistance to have our bags delivered to Aukland in 3 days. Throughout the cruise, Guest Service manager Anshika was fantastic. Our Vista Suite was perfect. This was our first Aft balcony and we loved it! As a Suite guest we had our first night dinner at Sabatini's and breakfast there every morning. It was never crowded and service was outstanding. Lunch and dinner was usually at the Santa Fe dinning room where we sat in the same area and had the same servers every day. Filipina was excellent. The food was good but not great, the meats were often overcooked and tough. Crab Shack was slightly disappointing for the price. We paid for the Chef's Table dinner but it was canceled due to illness on the ship. Each port day the crew double sanitized the ship to help keep us healthy. In Aukland we did the Hop on Hop off bus and visited the wonderful aquarium. Napier, was a wine tour and more clothes shopping. Nice Art Deco architecture . The real highlight of the cruise was Fjordlands Park! We had calm seas and slightly overcast. The veiws from our aft balcony were spectacular. The nightly entertainment varied in the main theater and there were always musicians playing around the ship. The entertainment Director was very energetic! The Ocean Now room service was as fast as ordering a drink from a bar. Really impressive. Our luggage never showed up. Guest services gifted us a back pack and a suitcase for the clothes we purchased along the way. Disembarkation was unbelievably fast. In Brisbane we enjoyed the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.

We love Princess because of the Medallion app. So great to be able to order food and drink to wherever you are on the ship. Love automatic cabin door unlock. Love the chat and message function. Being able to resolve queries/issues without having to go to service desk. In fact it's one of the reasons Princess is our cruise line of choice. On the latter part of this cruise (from Melbourne), there was a totally different vibe/demographic that we didn't like. Princess usually has a majority of mature cruisers and a minority of children. The cruisers from Adelaide to Melbourne were what we would consider the "usual" demographic for Princess. Not so from Melbourne to Brisbane - lots of kids and families and the increased noise that goes along with that. Luckily we always book a cabin with balcony so we spent the last part of the cruise in the cabin. If this is a move to pick up the Brisbane P&O demographic we may need to rethink our loyalty to Princess. We do love the value packages that are all inclusive and are incredible vale. We also love the food and beverage crew members who are eternally faultless. The food, however, could improve. I have to say the best food we had was pizza, burgers and tacos. The best food experience was in the dining room and it was because we lucked the most wonderful waiter Pascuale. The Japanese Bath's are fantastic and I was often there on my own, guessing some people didn't want to pay for the experience! The Sanctuary was disappointing as it shares an Adults only pool which could be very crowded - so expensive when compared with other ships. We've tried Royal Caribbean and don't like them as they're full of kids and loud party mobs. We did however, like Celebrity and it's worth a travel to Sydney.
