This was our first cruise. We upgraded from a standard indoor cabin to an indoor deluxe. It had a window seat overlooking the promenade. Room size was pretty good. We were happy with it as we spent most of our time around the ship and only spent an hour or 2 in the room (outside of sleeping at night). Food: Ive always heard that the food on a cruise is amazing, but I have to say, maybe I had unrealistic expectations, but I didnt think the food was anything but average. Sure there was plenty, but I didnt think the quality was anything to brag about. Also, we didnt book any of the restaurants. I am only speaking about the dining that comes with the cruise. Things we learned: 1. If you are going to gamble, gamble early. If you gamble enough to make the next loyalty/rewards tier (and didnt buy the alcohol package) then you can get free drinks at the casino bar the rest of your stay. I didnt know about this till AFTER the cruise so I missed out on this nugget. 2. an 18% gratuity is added to everything already. If you add a tip on the receipt you are tipping over the 18%. So if you have excellent service of course feel free to add more, but adding none isn't like your server isn't getting a tip at all. 3. Get the internet package. We initially only got for 1 of us thinking we needed it in case there was an emergency from the family at home or something. However, we quickly found out if we split up then we couldnt text each other to meet up or anything if we separated on the ship.
We spent New Year on the Liberty of the seas, with my wife and my 9-year old son as well as my in-laws. The Perfect Day at Coco Cay was great, it is a very nice island and the setup is ideal. There are plenty of chairs on all beaches, a lot of games, and the lagoon pool was very attractive. It was perfect the kids club was cool coco cay was perfect the entertainment was cool. there is even a adult zone.the pool was so cool i recommend it. One issue we had is the equipment at the gym. One machine out of 2 is not working properly or has some problems. Also, make sure to check your onboard account as they are error-prone to add some charges that are not justified. The entertainment at the piano bar as well as the Boleros was very nice. We had a great time.
The ship is older and so common areas and staterooms are a bit dated and the staterooms showed a lot of wear. The staterooms also lacked the power outlets of newer ships (eg no outlets by the bed only at the desk). However the ship and stateroom were kept very clean. We found the ship easy to navigate however our family struggled with a few decks that you couldn't walk end to end. The Royal Promenade was decorated beautifully for the holidays. Service was where the ship really stood out. This was some of the best service we have received on any ship across all the lines we've cruised (Royal, NCL, Celebrity, and Carnival). In the bars, service was always super fast and the follow up to check on us was frequent. We were never left wanting. Dining room staff were the same way. Fast, courteous, engaging. The one time we went to customer service our issue was corrected quickly. And our room steward kept our room clean without impeding us from using our stateroom. Entertainment especially for a three day cruise was really good. The production show, Saturday Night Fever, was excellent and one of our favorite shows we've seen on a ship! Additionally, the piano player at Schooner's, Jesse, put on an incredible performance we all loved and joined in. The Ice Show had a few issues but was certainly entertaining. For Dining specifically, we ate three dinners and two breakfasts in the main dining room. The food was good each time; not excellent but no complaints. The service in the main dining room, however, was fantastic. Fast, friendly, and great follow up to see if we needed anything else. Loved it! We also ate at the Windjammer buffet where the food was also okay but the lack of handwashing stations with the hordes of filthy handed passenger bypassing the little sanitizer station was a real turnoff. Sorrento's pizza was also perfectly fine. And service was quick. Finally, the coffee staff at Cafe Promenade were always friendly and fast.
