Beyond the first of its class, Oasis of the Seas® was also the ship that launched a holiday revolution. And now this Oasis Class favourite will introduce even more new thrills for couples and kids of all ages, upgraded ways to soak up the sun or enjoy the shade, more delicious dining options than ever to elevate date night, and buzzworthy new spots to light up every evening.
This was a family cruise. There were 2 seniors, 4 parents, and 3 kids ages 8 to 12. Embarkation and disembarkation were very smooth, especially for such a large ship. There were a number of family groups on this cruise which made it easier for the kids to meet new friends. 2 of the kids enjoyed the kids club a lot since they were able to play computer games. They also enjoyed the water activities on sea days. We were very happy to have the early dinner seating in traditional dining. Our waiter Beemal and his assistant Denisse were great. The kids especially enjoyed the extra attention these folks showed. We also felt that most of the nights, the variety of choices made everyone happy. The one exception was Italian night. I did not find the food inspired on Italian night. On sea days, when it comes to breakfast the Wind Jammer buffet was not so good. Although the food choices were fine, finding a table was extremely difficult. The adult area of the ship, The Solarium, was only marginally better. If you are an early riser, it is much easier to find seating. My thought is that I did not take a cruise to wake up early. Anyway, Cafe Promenade has decent coffee and lighter breakfast options. There is usually seating there or nearby at Sorrentos or the Globe and Atlas pub during breakfast hours. Johnny Rockets also has a good breakfast although seating is tight on sea days. Again on sea days, finding a lounge chair in the pool area or the Solarium was a challenge. Fellow cruisers lay claim to chairs early and tend to keep them all day. Happily, there were usually chairs available in the shaded areas of the Solarium. We really enjoyed the ports we visited. I liked the fact that there was plenty of time on both Aruba and Curacao. We had a mix of excursions arranged via RC and independent operators. The RC excursion, the submarine tour of the Aruba reef, is worthwhile and very safe. Most everyone in the group enjoyed the entertainment. I especially enjoyed CATS and was surprised by how much I enjoyed the ice show, Frozen. I like to gamble. The Casino Royal was busy and had tons or machines and table games. The bad thing for me is that smoking is allowed in the main casino. It gets a little thick if you are sensitive. There is a separate non-smoking casino room but the gambling options, machine and table, are limited. So for all the positives, why not 5 stars? The reason is the way the loyalty program benefits are accessed. We were entitled to 50% off our 1st 2 beers or wine on the trip and 10% a discount for each beer or wine after that. Strangely, you had to ask the bartender or waiter to apply the discount. If you didn't remember or didn't know, no discount. What baffles me is why the computer system doesn't automatically apply the discount. In our case, a visit to customer service was required so that the discounts that we missed and were entitled to, got applied to our folio. It sure makes me wonder if RC isn't figuring that some percentage of guests will not know/take the discount. While we are on the topic of money, I felt CocoCay was way too expensive for the water slides and some of the other premium options. One of the stands at the Straw Market wanted $20 for a magnet. I think that is way too much. The good thing is that there are tons of chairs available. There was another RC ship in addition to our own and the island did not feel crowded. We all had issues with the RC app. It was kind of wonky. Messaging kind of worked but one had to completely close the app then reopen it to get new messages. We also had issues checking in and making reservations. It took multiple tries. We had a balcony stateroom. We eventually found a place to stow our stuff although all the nooks and crannies made it a challenge. Maybe we pack too much. All in all, we had a great family . The issues I brought up did not stop us from having a good time. We all agreed that we would sail on Oasis of the Seas again.
Food was very good at chops and Giovanni’s,wind jammer food was pretty good,Alfonso at wind jammer entrance was so nice !!!0ur statesman was A.B.( his nickname) was the best!!!!0ur excursion on the kukoo kanukoo bus tour and beach with Carlos was amazing except for the beach part , surfside beach is not a beach I would consider going to again it was very short staffed at the bar:resteraunt and it was a bit dirty no chairs available not enough seats ,and the beach was small, they were definitely not prepared for all those tour buses coming in at once , although the staff tried their best!perfect day at coco cay was ok, we did the hideaway island bc of no children just to get a bit more peace and it was anything but that ,nothing but club music same beat over and over it was awful annoying!! If you are not a drinker this hideaway is not for you , the island itself is beautiful lots to do for kids
This is our second time sailing on Oasis; our first time was in 2010 when our two kids were young teenagers. They joined us with their significant others and our two friends this time. I was pleasantly surprised that the Oasis is just as pretty as she was 15 years ago. We had balcony cabins that were roomy and contained charming amenities. To be candid, we were rarely in our cabins except to change clothes, shower, and sleep, although it was nice to sit outside for a few minutes and absorb the peace, tranquility, and views as we each waited for the other to shower/change. We ate breakfast and lunch at the Windjammer cafe and in the Solarium. The food varied and was tasty. For dinner, we ate in the MDR. Again, the food was good. The service was good, except for one night when it was prolonged. I don't know what caused the delay in food service. It could have been something stemming from the kitchen or a staff shortage (due to illness during the sailing). We ate at Chops one night, and they accommodated our eight-person party. The service, food, and ambiance were exceptional. We were seated outside under a glass canopy. It rained throughout our dinner, but we were kept dry, which made the evening perfect! We also ate at the hibachi grill - Izumi. The food was delicious and abundant - none of us could finish our dinner. Again, they accommodated a large party. The entertainment, something RCCL is known for, did not disappoint. I HIGHLY recommend the Aquashow. The show was based on 80s music - it's not my favorite genre, but how they combined the songs with the dancers and acrobats made for a magical and entertaining experience. The divers and acrobats were highly talented! Our group agreed that we did not want the hour-long show to end. We also saw "Cats." Our reservations were made approximately 3-4 weeks before the cruise. The show was of Broadway quality, and we truly enjoyed it. Our last day was spent at Coco Cay. Honestly, I did not have high expectations of visiting a "private" island owned by RCCL. I thought it would be gimmicky. Boy, I couldn't have been more wrong. We reserved a cabana at Hideaway Beach. We were catered to by Irene, who brought us all the food and drinks we wanted. The cabana had a shower, sink, and mini fridge stocked with alcohol and sodas. We hooked up one of our phones and had our playlist playing throughout the day. The cabana included an infinity pool connecting the other eight cabanas (see photo below). It was truly exceptional. Unlike anything we have ever done, this was an over-the-top splurge for us. Yes, it was a bit pricey, but we never regretted spending the money on this experience. Despite having two RCCL ships at the port that day, I was surprised to see Hideaway Beach was nearly empty for those wanting to escape kids and crowds. There were plenty of loungers with large umbrellas for shade. To put it in perspective, I have sailed on five different cruise lines. RCCL is still my favorite, and Oasis does not disappoint!
First time on RC after a NCL and a Carnival. This is a big ship! Lots of things for the 12 year old. Room attendant and MDR waiter were wonderful. 7:30 reserve dining is the way to go. No waiting. Pools were over crowded. For such a big ship you would think they would have more pool area. 12 year old loved rock climbing, ice skating, flowrider, etc. Having to make reservations can be annoying. Also him being 2 weeks shy of 13 made him "kids cruise free" but I had to be present for any activity because at 12 parents need to watch. Despite signing a waiver to get him access to teen club, this didnt work for the activities. We needed to use medical and was frustrating the wait time to be seen but got meds and was good service once we actually saw the Dr. Food was pretty good. Didn't use any specialty restaurants but will plan for that next cruise. Most MDR was delicious just avoid the cheap steak. We had the drink package which we probably didnt really need. Labadee was our favorite, Coco cay was a little too cold. Aqua 80s was the BEST! Wish there as other shows besides Cats and the ice skating. we heard negative reviews so we avoided. Piano player in Schooner was great. The promanade parties were great. husband happened to get lucky and win in the casino so we get a free cruise so we will be be back for another RC.
